Otis advances to district semifinals
Otis High School baseball team’s Season D came down to this week’s Class 1A District 4 Tournament at the NJC field in Sterling.
The Bulldogs entered district with a 6-7 record and the No. 4 seed in the seven-team district bracket. They have advanced to Friday’s semifinal against top-seed Merino after cruising past fifth-seed Briggsdale, 16-6, Tuesday morning. Top-seed Merino had a first-round bye into Friday’s semifinals.
Other games this past Tuesday had third-seed Haxtun playing sixth-seed Prairie, and second-seed Caliche taking on seventh-seed Peetz. The winners meet in the other semifinal on Friday. The district championship game is set for 2 p.m.
The Bulldogs closed out the regular season on June 1 with an 8-7 home loss to the Simla Cubs. Erick Thorn had a hit, one RBI and scored two runs, Parker Davis one run, Peyton Wells one hit, Tyler Reynolds one hit and two runs, Carter Wells one hit and one run, and Brady Kuntz one hit and one run.
Otis then went up against Briggsdale in the district quarterfinal this past Tuesday, picking up a crucial win to advance to the semifinals.
Otis entered the postseason No. 19 in the Class 1A Rating Percentage Index. Twelve teams advance to regional, set for June 19, the top two from each district and the remaining two by RPI.

Stratton/Liberty in district
The Stratton/Liberty baseball team opens district tournament action today, June 10, against Holly.
The Knighted Eagles enter the postseason with a 7-6 record and a shot at qualifying further into the postseason thanks to being No. 11 in the Class 1A Rating Percentage Index. However, it will be tough in district as Holly is 11-4 and No. 3 in the RPI.
Twelve teams advance to regional, set for June 19, the top two from each district and the remaining two by RPI.
Stratton/Liberty closed out the regular season last week with three straight wins, including one by forfeit.
The Knighted Eagles beat Springfield 10-3, last Wednesday, June 2, at Springfield. They trailed 2-1 after five innings, but scored four in the sixth and five more in the top of the seventh to run away with the win.
Bex Seamon had two hits and two runs. Cooper Seamon a double, one RBI and two runs, Cyler Notter one hit, Camden Bledsoe on ehit and one run, Ethan Bohnen one hit and one run, Charlie Tagtmeyer one hit, two RBI and one run, Brock Mills one run, Madison Tagtmeyer one run, and Jose Gallardo one hit and three RBI.
Stratton/Liberty then got a forfeit win for the scheduled game against Manzanola on Friday, then won 12-6 over Simla. The Knighted Eagles took a 5-1 lead after two innings, then kept adding to the run total after that.
C. Seamon had three doubles among his four hits, with one RBI and three runs, Bohnen two hits, four RBI and one run, B. Seamon a double and three runs, Bledsoe a double, two RBI and one run, Notter one hit, one RBI and one run, Dawson Thompson one hit and one RBI, C. Tagtmeyer two runs, Joe Shean one run, and Brock Mills one hit.
