6-man and 1A volleyball

The Otis football team is No. 1 in the CHSAA 6-man Selection & Seeding Index, which made its debut this week for football.

The Bulldogs are 4-0 after a 68-12 win at Genoa-Hugo last Friday. They make a trip to the mountains on Friday for an afternoon game at North Park, which is 0-3.

Otis got rolling early last Friday at Genoa-Hugo, leading 22-0 after the first quarter and 54-6 by halftime.

Senior Austin Hornung returned from injury to complete eight of 11 passes for 143 yards and three touchdowns. Gavin Price completed his only pass for 10 yards. Cambric Klinzmann had four receptions for 79 yards and a touchdown, Emiliano Varela two touchdown catches for a total fo 38 yards, Grady Bechtle one for 17 yards and touchdown, Raegan Torres one for 10 yards, and Gracen Bechtle one for nine.

The running game added another 174 yards. Mitchell Stivers ran for 74 yards and a touchdown, Blake Stivers a 70-yard TD run, and Klinzmann 31 yards on three carries.

Defensively, M. Stivers had an interception, and Hornung and B. Stivers each recovered fumbles. Klinzmann and Tristen Stivers each were in on nine total tackles, Gracen Bechtle six, Travis Wood six, Price five, B. Stivers four, Grady Bechtle four, Torres three, M. Stivers two, and Austin Sauer, Scott Smith and Kayden Wood one each.

ARICKAREE FOOTBALL

Arickaree’s football team is at Peetz on Friday trying to snap a two-game losing streak.

The Bison are 2-3 and No. 10 in the CHSAA 6-man Selection & Seeding Index that made its debut this week. Their last two losses have come against No. 1 Otis and No. 2 Stratton. Friday is another tough challenge as Peetz is 4-0 and No. 9 in the Index.

Arickaree lost 66-27 last Thursday to Stratton, which was coming off an upset loss to Caliche. The Eagles led 50-15 by halftime.

Austin Wright ran for 82 yards and a touchdown for the Bison, Luis Machado 44 yards and a touchdown, Jorge Ramos 38 yards, Austin Fields 32 yards and a touchdown, and Colton Sperry two yards. Jaxson Cordell completed two passes for 44 yards. Ramos had a long touchdown catch, and Wright one for three yards.

Daniel Goff was in on 11 total tackles, Keith Page nine, Wright eight, Cordell seven, Ramos six, and Sperry and Machado one each. Cordell recovered a fumble.

OTIS VOLLEYBALL

The Otis High School volleyball team is 8-2 and No. 5 in the CHSAA 1A Selection & Seeding Index entering its home game against Loveland Classical today, September 25.

The Bulldogs picked up two wins last week. The first was a 3-0 sweep at Genoa-Hugo last Friday. Set scores and statistics were not available.

Otis then hosted Cheyenne Wells on Saturday, again winning in straight sets. Scores and statistics were not available.

LONE STAR VOLLEYBALL

Lone Star’s volleyball team is 5-5 heading into its home match against Fleming today, September 25.

The Longhorns are at Deer Trail on Tuesday. They are No. 21 in the CHSAA 1A Selection & Seeding Index.

Lone Star beat Peetz 25-7, 25-17, 25-15 earlier last week. Jade Kuntz had 10 kills, Peytyn Kuntz seven, Paityn Forry seven, Audrey Wade five and Grace Cochran three. Cochran led in setting assists with 22.

The Longhorns lost a tough five-set match at Akron the next day, 24-26, 25-23, 30-28, 18-25, 4-15. Forry had 14 kills, J. Kuntz 13, Wade six, Cochran five and P. Kuntz four. Cochran had 31 setting assists, Bryn Cook three and Kaylee Coin two. P. Kuntz was 16-17 serving, Cochran 16-17, J. Kuntz 15-19 with one ace, Forry 15-18 for five aces, Cook 12-13 with four aces, and Wade 9-10.

Lone Star won 25-15, 25-14, 25-7 at Front Range Baptist in Fort Collins last Friday. Forry was 23-25 serving with six aces, Cochran 18-19 with five aces, Wade 7-8, J. Kuntz 8-9 with one ace, Cook 5-6 with one ace, and P. Kuntz 5-5 with one ace. Wade had 11 kills, J. Kuntz five, Forry five, P. Kuntz four, Cochran two, Coin two and Katie Etl one. Cochran had 20 assists, and Coin one.

The Longhorns suffered another tough five-set loss last Saturday at Flagler, 25-21, 28-26, 23-25, 25-18, 12-15. Cochran was 22-23 serving with one ace, J. Kuntz 16-18 with two aces, P. Kuntz 15-16 with two aces, Forry 12-19 qwith four aces, Wade 14-17 with one ace, and Cook 9-11 with three aces. J. Kuntz put down 18 kills, Forry 12, Wade five, P. Kuntz four, and Cochran and Coin two each. Cochran had 35 assists, and Coin five.
