It is Saturday afternoons from here on out for the Otis High School football team.
The Bulldogs close out the regular season over the next two weeks with 1 p.m. kickoffs at Peetz this Saturday and at Eads on November 1. They are 6-2 and No. 6 in this week’s CHSAA 6-Man Selection & Seeding Index. Peetz is 8-0 and No. 3, but do not play No. 1 Idalia and No. 2 Stratton in the regular season.

Those are the teams that knocked off Otis the past weeks, including 56-12 by No. 1 Idalia last Friday in the Bulldogs’ last home game. They are still in position to host in the playoffs, but don’t want to drop much further.
Otis stuck with the visiting Wolves early on last Friday as the teams were tied 12-12. However, Idalia asserted itself behind an aggressive ground attack led by Gabe Kechter. The junior ran for 240 yards and three touchdowns.
The Bulldogs had 167 total yards. Mitchell Stivers ran for 51 yards and one touchdown, Cambric Klinzmann one touchdown, Blake Stivers 22 yards and Tristen Stivers 13. Austin Hornung completed six passes for 83 yards to Emiliano Varela, T. Stivers and Klinzmann.
Klinzmann was in on 17 total tackles, T. Stivers 10, Gracen Bechtle seven, Varela seven, Grady Bechtle six, Hornung six, M. Stivers three, Raegan Torres two, and B. Stivers, Gavin Price and Aiden Horinek one each.
ARICKAREE
The Arickaree football team is playing for a .500 record and a spot in the playoffs when the Bison close out their regular season Saturday afternoon at home against North Park.
They are 4-5 after rolling past the Genoa-Hugo Pirates 68-22 last Friday in southern Washington County. This Bison are No. 13 this week in the CHSAA 6-Man Selection & Seeding Index. North Park comes down out of the mountains with a 0-7 record.
Last Friday’s game was close early on as Arickaree led the Pirates 16-15. However, the Bison led 40-22 by halftime and outscored Genoa-Hugo 28-0 in the second half.
Austin Wright rolled to 279 rushing yards and three touchdowns on just 10 carries. Jorge Ramos added 113 yards and three TDs on nine carries, Keith Page 15 yards, Austin Fields nine and Jaxson Cordell five. Cordell completed two of three passes for 36 yards and a touchdown, and Wright completed one for 16 yards. Ramos had a 33-yard touchdown catch, Cordell one catch for 16 yards, and Daniel Goff one for three yards.
Defensively, Wright was in on 12 total tackles, Ramos nine, Luis Machado nine, Page eight, Colton Sperry five, Fields five, Cordell five, Goff three and Levi Kalcevic one.
OTIS VOLLEYBALL
The Otis High School volleyball team is looking to turn it around before the end of the regular season.
The Bulldogs have lost four straight, and seven of their last eight, heading into Saturday’s match Peetz. They are 10-9 overall and No. 17 in the CHSAA 1A Selection & Seeding Index. Peetz was 5-13 entering this week.

Otis hosted last Friday an Idalia squad that has had its struggles this season, but it was the Wolves who handed the hosts a 23-25, 20-25, 25-18, 29-31 loss.
The Bulldogs were at Weldon Valley earlier last week, again losing in four sets, 25-21, 14-25, 22-25, 24-26. Kensley Packer had 19 kills, Lydia Willeke 14, Ashton Gross six, Crysten Goble two, and hailey Juhl two. Goble recorded 14 setting assists. Willeke was 15-15 serving, Madison Reynolds 13-14 with one ace, Raya Grimes-Routh 13-14 with one ace, Packer 13-16 with three aces, Goble 13-17, and Juhl 7-10.
LONE STAR VOLLEYBALL
The Lone Star volleyball team has secured winning record for the 2025 season and should be in regional.
The Longhorns entered this week 13-8 and No. 18 in the CHSAA 1A Selection & Seeding Index with two matches left, today October 23 at home against Weldon Valley, and Friday at Hi-Plains.
Lone Star hosted Briggsdale last Thursday, winning in five sets, 13-25, 25-22, 25-21, 22-25, 15-10.
The Longhorns went 2-1 in the Caliche Tournament last Saturday. They beat Vanguard Classical East 25-3, 25-5, and beat Springfield 25-14, 25-14. They ended the day with a loss to Dolores, 23-25, 25-23, 8-15/ Lone Star statistics were not available.
