6-man and 1A volleyball

The Otis Bulldogs and Idalia Wolves will square off in a major early-season 6-man football showdown, Friday night in Otis.
The Bulldogs enter the key league game 3-0, 1-0 in league, after a 75-7 win over Hi-Plains, last Friday in Seibert. The Wolves also are 3-0, 1-0, after holding off the Arickaree Bison 12-8, last Friday in Idalia.
The Wolves are ranked No. 2 and Otis No. 3 in this week’s Colorado Preps Select Media Football Poll.
Otis had little trouble last Friday in Seibert, racing out to a 35-0 lead in the first quarter. It was 55-7 by halftime.
The Bulldogs ran for 282 yards and seven touchdowns as 10 players had positive yardage. Erick Thorn had 68 yards and two touchdowns, Bohden Klinzmann 49 yards and one touchdown, Austin Hornung 40 yards and one TD, Mitchell Stivers 29 yards, Tayte Smith 24, Malakye Reese 23 and one TD, Charlie Kendrick 18 and one TD, Tristen Stivers 17 yards, Garrett Patterson 10 yards and one TD, and Blake Stivers nine yards. Hornung completed both of is passes for 24 yards and two touchdowns, and Gavin Price completed his one pass for eight yards and a score. Jacob Perry, Sawyer Packer and Cambric Klinzmann each caught a TD pass.
Smith had two interceptions on defense and B. Stivers one. B. Klinzmann was in on eight tackles, Kendrick three, Smith three, Patterson three, Emiliano Varela two, Aiden Knudsen two, and M. Stivers, Hornung, B. Stivers, reese, Thorn, Price, T. Stivers, C. Klinzmann and Matthew Seward one each.

ARICKAREE FOOTBALL
The Arickaree Bison will be at Briggsdale on Friday after suffering a tough loss at Idalia last Friday.
The Bison dropped to 2-1 overall, 0-1 overall, in a rare low-scoring 6-man affair, 12-8. The Bison are No. 7 in this week’s Colorado Preps Select Media Football Poll, while Idalia now is No. 2.
Arickaree scored its touchdown and two-point kick in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough as Idalia scored in the second and fourth quarters.
Austin Wright ran for 58 yards and the Bison’s lone touchdown, while Nic Hermes had 50 yards, and Brayden Hill 12. Wright completed four passes for 75 yards. Dillon Noletubby had two catches for 57 yards, Hill one for 10, and Hermes one for eight.
Wright had an interception on defense, and Clay Axtell recovered a fumble. Jorge Ramos was in on 12 tackles, Wright 10, Hermes nine, Zarron Skubal eight, Noletubby seven, Rylee Nichols three, Axtell three, and Cody Homm two.

OTIS VOLLEYBALL
The Otis volleyball team has a big YWKC League and Class 1A showdown with Idalia, Friday in Otis.
Both teams are highly ranked entering this week after strong starts to the 2023 season.
Otis was 7-2, 2-0 in league, prior to taking on an undefeated Merino squad this past Tuesday, while Idalia entered this week 6-2, 1-0.
The Bulldogs opened league play earlier last week at Lone Star, winning 25-17, 25-14, 25-10. Statistics were not available.
They had another league match last Friday against Hi-Plains in Seibert, cruising to a 3-0 win, 25-11, 25-12, 25-20. Otis statistics were not available.

LONE STAR
The Lone Star volleyball team hosts a tough Fleming squad in a non-league match today, September 14, and stays at home Tuesday when Peetz comes visiting.
The Longhorns are 6-4 overall, 0-1 in YWKC League play. They opened league play earlier last week with a home loss to Otis, 17-25, 14-25, 10-25. Statistics were not available.
Lone Star got back on track with a 25-12, 25-16, 25-7 sweep at Deer Trail in a non-league match last Saturday. Lone Star statistics again were not available.

ARICKAREE VOLLEYBALL
The Arickaree volleyball team entered this week with a 6-6 overall record, 0-1 in YWKC League play.
It is a busy week for the Bison as they played at Wray this past Tuesday, host Wiley today, September 14, are at Briggsdale on Friday, and host Prairie Tuesday. All are non-league contests.
The Bison ran into a tough Idalia team last Friday, losing 16-25, 14-25, 25-27, on the Wolves’ homecourt. Arickaree statistics were not available.
