With September now here there are many things for people to look forward to. For some, this may be the start of a new school year and Friday night ball games. Others might be enjoying all the fresh fruits and vegetables available this time of year. But for many of us in the tri-state area the best thing is the upcoming Beecher Island Reunion.
The annual celebration now in its 126th year will be held on the 13th and 14th of September this year. The Beecher Island Board of Directors has a full slate of activities planned. Everyone is encouraged to come out early and start the day with a delicious breakfast served up by the Idalia FCE Club. A black powder shoot will be held, an Indian dance demonstration as well as a history presentation in the morning.
Several food trucks as well as ice cream and snow cones will be available to satisfy your needs. Following the lunch break the Colorado Crew Indian Dancers will give an encore performance. Afterward traditional games and races will take place between the playground and auditorium. Marla Matkin will give a history talk in the afternoon as well.
The judging of the Smokin on the Battleground BBQ Competition will be held at 4:00. For more information regarding this contact Ray Prentice at 970-630-5839. After the judging a free will BBQ, dinner will be served. The fun continues at 7:PM with a dance in the auditorium featuring DJ Monty Rambat Special Delivery.
Sunday morning breakfast will be served by the Beecher Island Board of Directors. The black powder shoot will wrap up with a few events in the morning. “Raising of the Flag” will be held at 9:30. At 10:00 AM Church service will be provided by the Beecher Island Sunday School. The final event will be the raffle drawing for baskets and quilt by The Beecher Island Helping Hand Club.
