Outlaw football over for ’25

The 2025 season has come to an end for the Yuma High School football team.

The Outlaws have missed the 1A postseason for the first time since the 2020 COVID-19 season in which only eight teams qualified.

A 3-0 start this season ended with a 4-5 finish, concluding with last Friday’s 42-8 loss at No. 2 Limon. The Outlaws went 1-4 in North Central play.

The 32-21 loss at Holyoke in Week 7 ended up being the difference. The Dragons, 4-5, qualified as the 16th seed, while Yuma finished a few spots out of the playoff field. Holyoke’s reward is a trip to No. 1 Buena Vista for the first round this weekend.

Four of the NCC teams are in the playoffs, Wiggins being the other one that is not.

Limon is the second seed and hosts 15th-seed Limon on Saturday. Burlington is the third seed and hosts 14th-seed Manual on Saturday. Wray is the sixth seed and hosts 11th-seed Rye on Saturday. As mentioned above, Holyoke travels to No. 1 Buena Vista; that game will be at 5 p.m. Friday. All the Saturday games have 1 p.m. kickoffs.

Limon, Burlington and Wray all are on the same side of the bracket.

Last Friday’s game was over early.

Limon’s Drey Tacha returned a punt for a touchdown early in the first quarter, and the Badgers scored twice more for a 21-0 lead in the first quarter

They added three more touchdowns in the second quarter, the last coming on a 60-yard interception return by Camdyn Tacha.

The Outlaws avoided the shutout in the third quarter when freshman Ty Weathers, the third-string quarterback, scored on an eight-yard run. Marvin Duarte ran in the 2-point conversion to close out the scoring.

Limon did not need a lot of big numbers to roll to the win. The Badgers had just 231 total yards, 168 rushing and 63 passing. Jacob Jaklich ran for 85 yards, and none of the other nine Badgers who ran the ball had more than 28.

Yuma had just 93 total yards, 60 rushing and 33 passing. A depleted backfield was led by Duarte’s 30 yards, while Chris Wario had 17, Weathers 13 and the TD, and Reyli Trejo two. Jose Mario Ross completed two passes for 27 yards, and Weathers one for six yards. Trejo had one catch for 20 yards, and David Covarrubias two for 13. Junior starting quarterback Iann Duran joined backfield mates Daden Beauprez and Christian Thomson on the inactive list for the season finale.

Jesus Gordo was in on seven tackles, Duarte five, Bryan Montes five, Wario four, Paulo Trujillo four, Ross three, Trejo three, Jesus Rodriguez three, David Gaytan two, and Brodie Kallweit, Cooper Blach, Manuela Varela, Lief Sims and Tanners Himes one each.
