Ann Allison Hardwick was born on August 9, 1935 in Twin Falls, Idaho to Marjorie and Kelsey Hardwick. When Ann was a toddler the family moved to the Los Angeles area in California. They returned to Colorado with Ann in 1939. They bought a farm south of Vernon and that was where she spent the rest of her growing up years. Her brother John joined the family in December of 1946.
Ann graduated from Vernon High School and then attended college at Colorado State College of Education (now known as UNC) in Greeley, Colorado. She met Alfred Brophy at college and they married on September 16, 1956 in Wray, Colorado. She fondly remembered it was “Beecher Island Weekend”. The newly married couple lived in Greeley while Alfred finished college. They moved to several small towns early in their marriage finally settling in Colorado Springs in 1965 where Alfred taught until he retired. They spent most weekends and summers at their ranch north of Wray.
Four children were born to this marriage, Kay Sonstegard, Dale (Anna) Brophy, Patrick (Unok) Brophy, and Barbara (Ed) Parrish.
Taking care of her family was one of Ann’s greatest joy’s. She loved cooking and spending time with her grandchildren. When she had extra time she loved to read. You would often find her curled up with a good book. She also made yummy jams, jellies, and pickles with fruit and veggies from the ranch.
Ann is survived by her four children, Kay, Dale, Patrick, Barbara, and her brother John (Mary-Ellen) Hardwick. She has 15 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren, and counting, with twins expected in November 2022! Numerous niece’s nephews and extended family will also miss her.
