Assault suspects arrested in Yuma County

The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of multiple partner agencies, apprehended a suspect last Saturday, September 13, following a severe assault that occurred in the early morning hours.

The YCSO was alerted to a serious assault at approximately 5:45 a.m.

Following an immediate investigation, deputies identified the suspect as Cory Korf. Due to the severity of the assault and the unknown whereabouts of the suspect, the regional SPEAR team was activated to assist with the search and apprehension.

Korf eventually was located in a vehicle in Yuma County, through a coordinated effort involving the YCSO, Wray Police Department, Holyoke Police Department, WY Communications, Wray EMS, and the Yuma Police Department.

The joint team mobilized and took the suspect into custody without incident. He was booked into the Washington County Jail for attempted first-degree murder, along with multiple other charges — first-degree assault, false imprisonment, second-degree kidnapping and domestic violence.

Bond was set at $250,000 cash or surety bond.

Sterling assault suspect arrested in Yuma

YUMA, CO – September 12, 2025 – A multi-agency operation resulted in the arrest of a wanted suspect in connection with an assault that occurred in Sterling, Colorado. The arrest came this afternoon in Yuma after Sterling detectives contacted the Yuma Police Department..

At approximately 4:25 p.m., the Yuma Police Department was notified that the individual, John Byrd, was possibly in the 600 block of South Columbus Street in Yuma.

Officers from the Yuma Police Department, Yuma County Sheriff’s Office and Sterling Police Department quickly coordinated their actions and safely apprehended the suspect.

Byrd was arrested without incident and turned over to the Sterling Police Department. A second person was also detained at the scene.

The Yuma Police Department extends its thanks to all agencies involved for their professionalism and teamwork.
