Brown receives McGuffey Award

Duane Brown has been honored with the prestigious McGuffey Award from the Colorado Association of School Boards.
He was presented the award recently at the CASB regional meeting.
Brown, a Yuma native, has served on the Yuma School District-1 Board of Education for the past six years, including the past two years as board president. His time on the board will come to an end after November’s board election.
He worked as a community member to support a bond election in 2016, which did not pass. After that, though, Brown ran for the school board, with the primary focus to improve facilities district-wide, while supporting staff compensation planning.
Brown was instrumental in Yuma-’1 successful bond campaign in November 2019 that secured matching funds for a $32 million BEST Grant project. He actively engaged in all planning and construction phases of the project.
Additionally, his knowledge fo bond refinancing and investing has been financially advantageous to the district.
The CASB McGuffey Award honors board members who bring committed and passionate service to their board work.
Brown also serves on the Federal Relations Network representing Congressional District 4 and has been very active as Yuma-1’s representative Delegate at the CASB Delegate Assembly.
“Locally, he is always focused on preserving historical artifacts and information of our school district and community. His service to YSD-1 is appreciated and we wish him the best as he moves onto new endeavors!”
