Commissioner Gates will not run for second term

There will be an open race for Yuma County Commissioner District 1 in November’s election.

Commissioner Adam Gates has announced he will not run for a second term. Below is his announcement.

Friends, supporters and residents of Yuma County,

After careful consideration, prayer, and conversations with those closest to me, I have decided not to seek another term as Yuma County Commissioner of District 1.

It has been an honor to serve the people of Yuma County since 2023. The opportunity to represent this community has been humbling, and I am grateful for the trust you have placed in me.

The decision to not run for another term has not come easily. During my tenure I have been blessed by the relationships I’ve cultivated and grown, the challenges we’ve endured together, and the progress we’ve made for our county.

Although I will not be seeking reelection, I am committed to serving out my term by devoting my time and energy in 2026 just as I have since 2023: doing the work residents elected me to do – improve government services and continue to build a strong foundation for future boards to be successful. I will continue to work to make sure Yuma County is a great place to live and raise a family; a place where government is run efficiently, and residents are proud to call home.

I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to the remarkable staff and department heads throughout Yuma County. Your unwavering support, never-ending dedication to the day-to-day tasks, and commitment to excellence are what truly make Yuma County great. It has been an absolute pleasure working alongside each of you.

I want to thank you, the voters, for the privilege of serving you. Your support and engagement have made these years truly special, and I am forever grateful. Here’s to a productive and strong 2026.

God Bless Yuma County!

Thank you,

Adam Gates

Yuma County Commissioner
