Delores “Dee” Pixler 1937-2025

Delores “Dee” Pixler, a lifelong resident of Yuma, Colorado, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2025, at the age of 87.

Born on December 10, 1937, Delores was the second daughter of Edwin and Martha Brandner. She grew up on the family farm northwest of Yuma, where, besides helping with farm chores, she was a regular troublemaker -having wrecked a couple of cars. She attended Lone Star School, graduating in 1955.

She married Jack Pixler, and together they had three children: Don, Jackie, and Julie. The family made their home in Yuma, where she worked ironing clothes for ten cents a piece and babysat neighborhood kids. After her divorce, Delores remained in her home on Albany Street, where she lived for the rest of her life.

Delores worked in Yuma restaurants for more than 50 years, rarely taking time away from her job. Even after suffering a heart attack in 2010, she made a quick recovery and got right back to work. One night, after closing up the Main Event, she was driving home, swerving her car to avoid the potholes in the road. She was stopped by local police, who asked, “Where have you been?” She replied, “I just left the Main.” “How long have you been at the Main?” he asked, having seen her car swerving. In her matter-of-fact yet cheeky way, she told him, “Oh, over 30 years now.”

When not working, she enjoyed tending her garden and sharing the abundance with friends. She traveled to visit her family in California, Hawaii, and Pennsylvania. For many years, she shared her travel adventures with her companion Oliver Kofoed. Together, they searched flea markets and antique shops around the country looking for car parts.

She is survived by her daughters Jackie and her husband Gerardo Casillas, and Julie and her husband Jack Weaver. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren Amanda and her husband Mike, Anthony and his wife Erica, Jared, Rachel and her husband Rob, Amy, Justin and his wife Amanda, and Jessica, grow into their own lives. She was proud to have five great-grandchildren whom she adored: Brody, Cora, Waverly, Monroe, and Cameron. She is also survived by her sisters Mary Lou and Cindy, along with their children Linda, Barbara, John, Tina, Melissa, and Cassandra. She was preceded in death by her parents, her older sister Joan, and her son Donald.

A graveside service to honor Delores’s life was held at Yuma Cemetery on Friday, September 26 at 10 a.m. A cookie reception followed at Baucke Funeral Home at 11 a.m.
