Eckley’s Old Settlers Picnic, Yuma County’s oldest community celebration, will be taking place this weekend.
Most of the action occurs Saturday, August 30.
Breakfast burritos will be available beginning at 7 a.m. at Eckley Bar & Grill.
The parade down Eckley’s Main St. will be at 10 a.m. Floats sign-up is at 9:30. Registration for car and bike show begins at 10 a.m.
The always-popular street races will be on Main St. following the parade.
The Orton Weaver Memorial Turtle Races will be at 11:30 on Main St. following the street races.
The John Owens Memorial Horse Shoe Pitch will be behind the Honey Root Beauty Shop next to the Eckley Bar & Grill. Sign up will begin at 1 p.m.
The Eckley Volunteer Fire Department will be hosting its annual free barbecue at 12 p.m. on Main St.
A Lawn Mower Gymkhana will be at 1 p.m. Sign up is at 12:30 and there is a $5 entry fee. There will be barrel racing, flag race, key hole, turn-n-burn and pole bending. There will be divisions for ages up to 13, adults and modified.
Later in the day, there will be a live auction at the Eckley Bar & Grill from 5 to 7 p.m. Viewing of items will begin at 4 p.m.
The firefighters will present a fireworks show at dusk. Following that, there will be a DJ playing music at the Eckley Bar & Grill until midnight.
Eckley Community Church will have a special service Sunday morning.
The 25th annual John & Allison Turvey Memorial Poker Run will be held that morning. There is a $25 entry fee, lunch included, and it is open to all. Proceeds go to the Eckley Volunteer Fire Department.
