Gerald “Jerry” Eugene Lohmeyer was born on August 23,1939 in Burlington, Colorado to Henry and Celestia Lohmeyer. He passed away peacefully on January 15, 2026 at the age of 86. He grew up in the Kirk area until the age of 10 when the family bought a farm house Northeast of Yuma. He was proud to be able to purchase the family farm years later from his parents. He loved everything John Deere, from his John Deere one-way to his tractors and combine.
Jerry attended school graduating from Yuma Union High School with the Class of 1958. In school Jerry was involved in FFA his sophomore, junior and senior years as well in the class play his senior year. His nickname from youth was “Smiley.” He loved to cruise around in his car, making several trips with friends to Denver on the weekends to go to dances and chase girls. Chasing girls came to an end when he met Sharon Gorham from Sterling. He married Sharon on September 23, 1979 at the Zion Congregational Church in Sterling, Colorado. Jerry and Sharon lived and worked on the farm together for 41 years raising wheat and a few cattle.
Jerry was preceded in death by his wife Sharon, his parents Henry and Celestia Lohmeyer, his brother Keith, half-sister Norma Higgason and in-laws Donald and Ethel Gorham. He is survived by his sister in-law Norma Lohmeyer, nieces LeAnn Riley, Laura Heinforth and nephew Loren Lohmeyer along with other relatives and friends.
Jerry’s funeral service was a graveside service held at the Yuma Cemetery on Monday January 26, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Michael Fitzsimmons officiating, Baucke Funeral Home took care of the arrangements.
