Gilliland will run for YC Sheriff

To my friends and neighbors in Yuma County,

Most of you know me as your current Undersheriff. You’ve seen me at community events, on patrol, or around town with my family. Today, I’m writing to you not just as a law enforcement officer, but as a neighbor who deeply cares about this community.

I am officially announcing my candidacy for Yuma County Sheriff. While I sincerely appreciate the many generous offers of financial support I have received, I have chosen to run a self-funded campaign as a registered Republican.

My life is firmly rooted here in Yuma County. My wife, Candy, and I have spent years building our home here and raising our children — Tony, Samantha, Garrett, and Sandy — with a deep respect for hard work and the responsibility of looking out for one’s neighbors. When I’m off duty, you’ll likely find me at home, with our Texas Longhorns and watching the sun set over the place we are so proud to call home.

I’ve spent more than 30 years in law enforcement, serving at the state, city, and county levels. Each role shaped who I am today, but my time here in Yuma County has taught me the most important lesson of all: a Sheriff must be more than an enforcer — he must be a trusted neighbor, a steady presence, and someone the community knows and believes in.

Since 2019, I’ve had the honor of serving as Undersheriff alongside Sheriff TC Combs, working with some of the most dedicated deputies and staff anywhere. Over the last 30 years, I’ve received extensive training and recognition, and I’m proud of that work. But what matters most to me isn’t a list of certificates — it’s hearing a resident say, “What you did years ago changed my life for the better.”

As your Sheriff, my focus will remain on what matters to you:

  • Keeping Yuma County safe and secure.
  • Strengthening the bond of trust between the office and the citizens.
  • Continuing a “people-first” approach to policing.

I have the experience to do this job, but I need your support to earn it. I’d be honored to have your vote. Please follow Larry Gilliland for Yuma County Sheriff on Facebook to learn more about my vision — and if you see Candy or I around town, please stop and say hello. I’d love to hear what’s on your mind.

Sincerely,

Larry Gilliland Undersheriff & Candidate for Yuma County Sheriff
