Girls golf regional is Monday

The Yuma High School girls golf team’s season comes down to Monday’s regionals.

The Outlaws will send four players to Sky Ranch Golf Course in Sterling for the Class 2A Region 3 Tournament. This is the first season for 2A girls golf, which opens the door to more chances of advancing to the state tournament.

A total of two full teams and 13 individuals not on those teams will qualify for the first-ever 2A state tournament.

Coach Luke Goeglein said sophomore Kena Serl has a great shot at qualifying and there are others on the team fully capable of having a great day if they can put it all together.

The Outlaws competed in Limon this past Monday. The day featured strong wind gusts and the occasional rain sprinkles. Serl still shot a personal best 94 to finish second. She also made a hole-in-one on No. 6, and still ended up with a birdie. Aspen Chadwick shot a 120 and Danika Dischner 138. The Outlaws finished fourth in the team standings.

Yuma also played in Burlington late last week. The Outlaws finished sixth in the team standings. Serl finished fourth with a 97, while Madilyn Rahm shot a 119 and Avery Langely 122.

Yuma also sent a foursome to the Akron JV Tournament last Friday. Jacqueline Gonzalez shot a 58 over nine holes, placing fourth. Kinsley Mendoza shot a 65, Kaydence Hansen 70 and Sofia Fuents 77. They finished fourth in the team standings.
