Girls wrestling done with regular season

The Yuma High School girls wrestling team now can focus on the postseason.

The Outlaws have this weekend off before competing in regional on Friday, February 9, at ???

YHS’s girls wrestlers concluded the regular season last Saturday at the Chatfield War Horse Girls Invitational. The Outlaws finished 16th in the 47-school field with 48 points. Wrestlers competed in the Gold Division, which counted toward the team score, or the Silver Division, which did not.

Chloe Smith placed fourth at 105 pounds. She won her first two matches by fall to reach the semifinals, where she lost by fall in the third period. Smith recovered to win her consolation semifinal match, but then lost by fall in the third-place match.

Gese Sanchez went 4-2 while placing fifth at 170. All her matches were determined by fall, including a 56-second pin in the consolation rounds. She won her fifth-place match in 2:49.

Danika Dischner won her first two matches, both by decision, to reach the 190-pound semifinals, but then lost her next two bouts and not place.

Camila Sanchez had a 20-second pin while going 2-2 at 100, and Kenya Arvizo had one win at 120.

In the Silver Division, Taelynn Robinson went 3-0, including a 20-second pin, to win the 100-pound title. Tara Leifheit had one win at 110, Peyton Hynson one win at 115, and Maggie Avina competed at 100 and Gabby Varela at 130.
