Yuma High School’s girls wrestling is looking to be more at full strength this week.
“It will be nice to get back into the swing of things after break because I had a lot of girls gone during break,” coach Brandon Newton said. “Some had only a couple practices before we dualed Sedco. I am looking forward to Saturday, we should have everyone healed up and feeling better and back in shape.”
The girls, along with the boys team, will be at Chase County in Imperial, Nebraska, on Saturday. Both teams also will host Burlington for a dual on Friday in The Pit, but Newton said only two girls will be wrestling due to low numbers from Burlington.
Yuma wrestled in the Lamar Lady Thunder Invitational last Friday. Newton said three of his wrestlers ended up getting hurt or sick, so they had to medical forfeit the rest of the tournament.
Still, the Outlaws finished sixth in the team standings with 78.5 points.
Kenya Arvizo placed fourth at 120 pounds. She won her first two matches by fall before finishing 3-2, including a technical fall win in the consolation semifinals.
Luisa Palacios was fourth at 130. She went 2-2 with wins by decision of 3-0 and 5-4.

Taeylynn Robinson went 3-3 at 100, Heidi Vargas 2-3 at 110, Tehya McDonald 2-3 at 135, Danika Dischner one win at 235, Daphni Allen one win at 125, Maurine Smith one win at 155. Dafne Mireles wrestled at 105, Haley Smith 100, Jessa Yost 235, and Mirella Flores 115.
The Outlaws also had a dual last Thursday against Sedgwick County/Fleming in Haxtun. Vargas got a win by decision at 110, Arvizo a win by decision at 120, and Dischner a win by fall at 235.
