Outlaws volleyball looking to put it all together

Yuma High School’s volleyball team continues to work toward putting it all together.

The Outlaws were 1-4 heading into this past Tuesday’s match at Chase County in Imperial, Nebraska. They are at Akron for their Lower Platte opener on Friday.

“We are hoping that we will be able to start putting everything together in these matches – good passes, good connections with our setters and hitters, and all-out hustle on defense,” coach Jamie Nighswonger reported. “The girls just need to keep working hard.”

The Outlaws ran into a tough Pine Bluffs Hornets squad, last Friday in Wyoming. They had a rough start, losing the first set 14-25. They nearly pulled out the second, losing 25-27, and were right there until the end in a 22-25 loss in the third set.

Lauren Gonzales had five kills, Bailey Nighswonger five, Berkley Nighswonger five, Lindsey Hermosillo three, and Novalee Schuetz one. Aubrey Black had nine setting assists, and Bailey Nighswonger seven. Yuma served 88.7 percent. Bailey Nighswonger was 15-16 with six aces, Gonzales 10-11 with one ace, Hermosillo 10-11, Black 9-9 with one ace, Carolina Ross 8-9, and Berkley Nighswonger 3-6.
