Rains give way to extreme heat

The recent weather pattern continues to bring precious moisture to the area.

Storms have been rolling through the area on a consistent basis in the late afternoons, early evenings. Many have included hail, but it mostly being relatively small and not lasting long.

Then came this past Tuesday, when a rare morning thunderstorm dumped more rain, approximately one-half inch. More arrived in the afternoon when another thunderstorm rumbled overhead. Plus, the high temperature was only in the 70s, providing a break from the recent heat.

Yuma now has received 4.71 inches since the wet Memorial Day weekend last month.

However, as most are aware the heat is coming back with a vengeance. The high today, June 19, is supposed to be in the high 90s, followed by highs well above 100 on Friday and Saturday, and still in the high 90s on Sunday. Luckily, it is supposed to cool down a bit early next week with highs returning the low 80s.
