Softball starts out 0-2

Yuma County Softball got its season off to a rough start, last Friday at Rocky Ford.
The YCS played again this past Tuesday at Lamar, losing 15-0.
The team is in the Valley/Platte Valley Tournament, Friday and Saturday. The local girls play Valley on Friday at 11 a.m., Alamosa at 3 p.m., and then Forge Christian at 9 a.m. Saturday at Platte Valley.
YCS lost its opener 13-1, getting shutout after scoring the game’s first run in the top of the first inning.
The Meloneers responded with three runs in the home half, then added four more in the second. The home team eventually added two more in the fourth, and four in the fifth to get the game called on the 10-run rule.
The Yuma County girls were able to get four hits. D. Davis hit a double and a single, and scored the team’s only run. She scored on DeLand’s single. Ridnour also hit a single. Davis took the pitching loss. The YCS defense committed just one error. YCS’s batters struck out 11 times.
Lamar scored 13 runs in the first inning this past Tuesday.
