Yuma High School’s cross country runners had a great showing in Brush last week.
“It’s been one of the toughest and most humid races so far, but we showed up,” coach Katherine Coughlin said.
Now the Outlaws have an early-morning trip Friday to the Windsor Wizards Invitational with an 8:30 a.m. start.
Yuma’s boys finished second at the Brush Invitational last Thursday, September 11, out of 10 schools with enough runners to post a team score. The Outlaws finished with 51 points, only behind Fort Morgan’s 48.
Eli Hart, a student from Akron who just recently came out for the Yuma team, finished second in the boys race with a time of 18 minutes, 3.8 seconds. Alan Flores placed sixth in 18:42.3, Agustin Montes de Oca 19th in 19:53.6, and Jose Jacquez 24th in 20:48.4 to round out the team score. Kolton Strand was 25th in 20:52, Anderson Habana 37th in 22:25.6, Anderson Weathers 38th in 22:36.9, Esteban Gonzalez 40th in 22:58, and Adan Cortes 41st in 23:19.6.
Achtonn Neill-Davison finished fifth in the girls race with a time of 23:16.5, Layla Glanz 17th in 25:37, Kenya Arvizo 18th in 25:44.2, and Ayme Escobar 21st in 26:21.7.
