XC had strong run at league meet

Yuma High School’s cross country runners have one more meet in the regular season.

The Outlaws picked up a meet today, October 16, in Hoxie, Kansas, as regional is not until next Saturday, October 25.

They ran in the Wiggins Cross Country Invitational last Saturday, which also served as the Lower Platte League Championship.

Wiggins won the Lower Platte boys title as the Tigers had five of the top six placers among Lower Platte runners. Yuma was second with four of the top nine. Merino and Wray also had a few runners in the meet.

Alan Flores was second among Lower Platte runners with a time of 17 minutes, 34.5 seconds. Eli Hart was seventh in 18:53, Jose Jacquez eighth in 19:28, Agustin Montes de Oca ninth in 19:36.7, and Esteban Gonzalez 13th in 29:42.8.

Overall, Flores was third, Hart 21st, Jacquez 27th, Montes de Oca 29th and Gonzalez 46th. Also running for Yuma were Anderson Habana, Kolton Strand, Maddox King, Anderson Weathers, Adan Cortes, Jesus Garcia, Jose Olivares and Mateo Aguinaga.

Achtonn Neill-Davison was third among the girls Lower Platter runners, with a time of 22:01. Layla Glanz was sixth in 22:40.7, Kenya Arvizo 11th in 24:33.2, and Ayme Escobar 12th in 24:45.7. Wray likely won the girls Lower Platte title with five of the top 10 placers. Overall, Neill-Davison was 13th, Glanz 20th, Arvizo 35th and Escobar 38th.
