YCS nearing postseason berth

Yuma County Softball concludes the regular season today, October 9, with an eye on qualifying the for the 3A postseason.

YCS is 11-10 overall and 4-0 in the Lower Platte heading into the doubleheader at Burlington. The tam currently is No. 26 in the CHSAA 3A Selection & Seeding Index. Burlington enters the double dip 6-11 and No. 35 in the Index.

Yuma County stayed perfect in Lower Platte play with a sweep of Holyoke, earlier last week in Wray.

The local girls won the opener 16-5. They scored four in the first and four in the third. Holyoke cut the deficit to 8-4 in the top of the fourth. However, YCS added on eight more runs in its next two at-bats.

Danyelle Davis got the pitching win. She allowed five runs, one earned, over five innings, scattering three hits, walking four and striking out three.

YCS had 13 hits. London King had a double among her three hits, with five RBI and four runs scored, Gemma Oestman two hits, two RBI and one run, Lauren Gdanitz two hits, one RBI and two runs, Davis two hits, two RBI and two runs, Autumn Maggard two hits and one RBI, Clara Oestman one hit and one run, Priscylla White one hit and three runs, Isabel Oestman two runs, and Grace Jones one RBI and one run.

The local girls then closed out the sweep with a 13-2 win in the second game. It was tight early as YCS led 3-2 after the first, but led 10-2 by the end of the third.

White got the pitching win, allowing two runs, one earned, all in the first inning. She held the Dragons to three hits over five innings, striking out seven and walking one.

YCS had 15 hits, including six doubles and one triple. Davis had a double among her three hits, with one RBI and two runs, Ellie Oestman two doubles with two RBI and one run, Gdanitz a double and the triple with one RBI and two runs, Jones two hits, one Rbi and two runs, G. Oestman one hit, one RBI and two runs, Ellie Jeurink one hit and one RBI, C. Oestman one hit, two RBI and one run, King had a double, two RBI and two runs, and Maggard two hits with a double, two RBI and one run.r

If YCS qualifies, regional will be held October 17-18. The 32-team brackets will be released on Monday.
