YHS track concluding regular season

Yuma High School’s track and field teams conclude the regular season Friday at the St. Vrain HOKA Invitational at Longmont High School on Friday.

Qualifying Outlaws then will compete in the Class 2A Track and Field Championships next week, May 15-17, at Jefferson County Stadium in Lakewood.

“The season, as most seasons do, had its ups and downs,” head coach Lucas Lubbers said. “I feel we are closing out the regular season on the up. We have seen a lot good performances and hope to continue to see some season-best performances as we get into our last meet and state.”

The Outlaws competed in the LPAA League Championship last Saturday in Wiggins. The winners of each event earned all-conference honors, and the second-placers received honorable mention.

Neither Yuma team won the league title, but there were many top performances.

Chloe Smith cleared 9-foot-1 to win the pole vault. Daphani Allen was second in the 100-meter dash in 13.04 seconds, second in the 200 in 26.73 seconds, and second in the 400 in 1:02.29. Layla Glanz was third in the 100 in 13.31 seconds, third in the 200 in 27.57 and third in the 400 in 1:03.8.

The 4-by-100 team of Smith, Aubrey Black, Emory Mcclaran and Carolina Ross was third in 53.37 seconds, the 4-by-200 foursome of Smith, Black, Mcclaran and Ross was third in 1:51.93, and the 4-by-400 crew of Ross, Mcclaran, Smith and Glanz was third in 4:29.47.

Back to the open races, Emory Mcclaran was sixth in the 200 in 29.01 seconds, and Sadee Mosenteen eighth in 29.64. Achtonn Monk was fourth in the 1600 in 6:41.31, and Kenya Arvizo fifth in 7:02.86. Monk was sixth in the 3200 in 14:15.5. Addison Armstrong was sixth in the 100-meter hurdles in 18.35 seconds, and Jade Lungwitz eighth in 18.74.

Lungwitz was fourth in the long jump with a distance of 15-1.25, Allen sixth at 14-10.5, and Aubrey Black seventh at 14-5.5. Braylynn Armstrong was fourth in the triple jump at 31-8.25, and Lungwitz fifth at 31-6. B. Armstrong was sixth in the pole vault at 7-7, and A. Armstrong eighth at 7-1. Taryn Mekelburg cleared 4-0.5 for seventh in the high jump.

On the boys side, Dallas Brunk was third in the 400 in 56.4 seconds, and Esteban Gonzalez eighth in 58.5. Alan Flores was third in the 800 in 2:11.04. Brunk was fourth in the 110-meter hurdles in 19.7 seconds and sixth in the 300 hurdles in 46.65. Josiah Perez was fifth in the 3200 in 11:47.42, and sixth in the 1600 in 5:34.42. Flores was eighth in the 100 in 12.11 seconds.

Cannon Beaver took fourth in the high jump at 5-6.5, fourth in the triple jump at 37-2.25, and fifth in the long jump at 18-5.75. Agui Montes de Oca was seventh in the pole vault by clearing 9-7, and Gonzalez was eighth at the same height.

The 4-by-100 team of Brodie Castillo, Noe Quezada, Izaiah Mosser and Flores was fourth in 46.68 seconds. The 4-by-800 foursome of Adan Cortes, Miguel Carrasco, Perez and Anderson Habana was fourth in 10:33.91. The 4-by-200 team of Castillo, Quezada, Yandel Solano and Flores was fifth in 1:38.66, and Mosser, Quezada, Brunk and Gonzalez placed fifth in the 4-by-400 in 4:00.84.

HWAY

The YHS tracksters competed in the HWAY in Julesburg last Wednesday.

The girls team finished third in the 15-school field with 95.5 points, while the boys placed fifth with 58 points.

Allen won the 100 in 13.14 seconds, and Glanz was second in 13.22 seconds. Glanz won the 200 in 27.3 seconds, Mcclaran seventh in 29.39, and Yaretsi Marquez eighth in 29.95. Allen was second in the 400 in 1:01.58, and Glanz third in 1:03.06. Arvizo was fourth in the 3200 in 17:49.05. A. Armstrong took sixth in the 100 hurdles in 17.77, and B. Armstrong eighth in 18.27.

Smith cleared 9-4 to win the pole vault. B. Armstrong was third in the triple ump at 33-1.75, and Lungwitz seventh at 32-1. Allen placed fourth in the long jump at 16-6.25, and Lungwitz eighth at 14-8.

The 4-by-200 team of Black, Ross, Mcclaran and Smith was second in 1:53.94. The 4-by-100 squad of Mcclaran, Ross, Black and Smith was fourth in 54.38 seconds, and the 4-by-400 team of Ross, Smith, Glanz and Mcclaran was fourth in 4:35.72.

Flores won the 800 in 2:08.68. Varela was fourth in the 100 in 12 seconds. Castillo was eighth in 200 in 25.61 seconds. Perez was sixth in the 1600 in 5:24.28, and sixth in the 3200 in 12:47.63.

Brunk was third in the 300 hurdles in 45.41 seconds, and eighth in 110 hurdles in 19.19 seconds.

Beaver was third in the long jump at 19-3, and fourth in the triple jump at 37-10.

Yuma got a victory in the 4-by-100 relay as Castillo, Quezada, Varela and Flores crossed the line first in 46.23 seconds. The 4-by-200 team of Castillo, Quezada, Solano and Flores was third in 1:37.95, and the 4-by-400 team of Solano, Quezada, Varela and Brunk was eighth in 4:08.59.
