Flowers on S. Main St. in Yuma happily soak up the steady rain that fell all of Tuesday, September 23. It was one of the better day-long rains the area has received in a long time. More than two inches fell in and around Yuma on Tuesday. Officially, Yuma had 2.43 inches between the rain Monday night and then the next day’s constant downpour. Though it might have thrown a wrench in some aspects of agriculture, those who had just planted wheat should be plenty pleased, as should those about to plant in the moisture-rich soil. Yuma school buses did go to storm routes after school Tuesday and were going to remain on them Wednesday for the morning and afternoon routes, but it will dry out again very soon, and we likely won’t have moisture again for quite awhile. The Yuma area has received nearly 4 inches of rain in September, though most of that fell in two days, this past Tuesday and on Saturday, September 13.
