Yuma High School’s boys wrestling team’s final dual in the 2025-26 regular season was canceled due to illness on both teams.
The Outlaws were supposed to wrestle at Strasburg on Friday for their only competition this week. Now they will prepare for the 2A regional in Akron on February 13-14.
They had a fun two days late last week, beating Akron in a dual in The Pit, then getting the program another 100-win wrestler Friday in the Mitchell Invitational in Nebraska.
Akron came to town last Thursday for the Outlaws’ final home action. It was competitive throughout, with Yuma escaping with a 42-34 team win. It came down to the final match as Yuma led 36-34 when David Gaytan won by fall at 132 pounds to secure the dual win.
That was a fun one, but the match of the night came at 175 pounds. Tyson Hansen was trailing in a close match with Akron’s Rylee Bacon when he was able to pull off a nice reverse move and then got the pin at the 4 minutes, 30 seconds mark.
Esteban Gonzales earned the Outlaws’ other win on the mat, getting a second-period pin at 120 pounds.
Getting forfeit wins were Dallas Brunk at 150, Daden Beauprez at 190, Brian Montes 215, and Cooper Blach 103.
The Outlaws were on the bus early the next morning for a trip to Mitchell, Nebraska, for their final tournament of the regular season.
They made it worth their time as they finished fourth out of 17 schools with 107 points.
Two championship efforts led the way, with the highlight being Beauprez earning his 100th career win.
The senior entered the tournament with 96 wins. He opened with a 21-second pin, then got another win by fall in the first period. Beauprez won his third match by technical fall (19-3, 4:48), then earned his 100th win and the 190-pound title with a win by fall at the 2:57 mark against Ogallala’s Kolby Nowak.
Gaytan joined him by winning the 132-pound title. His first win was by technical fall (18-3, 4:29). The last three were by fall, including one in 51 seconds, and one in 1:04 in the championship match against Burlington’s Rutley Hansen.
Gonzalez went 3-1 to place third at 120, winning three straight after losing his first match.
Blach went 3-2 while placing fourth at 106. Augi Montes de Oca went 3-2 at 126, Montes one win at 215, Blake Stivers 2-2 at 138, Ethan Nadow one win at 144, Jorge Ramos one at 165, Anderson Habana wrestled at 113, Brunk at 150, and Hansen at 175.
