Arickaree’s girls basketball team enters the final week of the regular season sitting in good shape for the postseason.

The Bison are 10-6, going 3-2 in the YWKC, with a game today, February 15, at Kiowa, then a home game Friday against Miami-Yoder. They then have the Class 1A District 5 Tournament next week. Arickaree is No. 15 in the 1A CHSAA Selection & Seeding Index, which will determine the regional pairings after district.

The Bison picked up a 38-32 home win over Hanover last Friday. They trailed after the first quarter but outscored the Hornets 25-9 in the middle two quarters before holding off the visitors down the stretch.

Janice Kalcevic had 14 points and two rebounds, Raeya Schrock 11 poinrts and two assists, Janiya Smith nine points, six rebounds and seven steals, Julisa Quinteros four points, five rebounds and three steals, and Lilly Monat four rebounds, four assists and four steals.

OTIS GIRLS

The Otis High School girls basketball team is trying to stay in the running for a regional berth entering the final games of the regular season.

The Bulldogs were 7-9 and No. 23 in the Class 1A CHSAA Selection & Seeding Index heading into this past Tuesday’s game at 2A No. 1 Merino. They close out the regular season Friday at home against Flagler before playing in the District 5 Tournament next week.

Otis ran its winning streak to four last week, including a 46-33 home win over neighboring rival Lone Star. They outscored the Longhorns 27-11 in the middle two quarters to secure the win. Madelyn Willeke had 16 points, 12 rebounds and five assists, Alli Hornung 13 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals, Lydia Willeke seven points and two assists, Aedyn Tribelhorn five points, six rebounds and four steals, Madison Reynolds three points and two rebounds, Kayce Perry two points and four rebounds, Raya Routh four rebounds, and Layce Perry two rebounds and two steals.

The Bulldogs then got a 60-28 win at Peetz last Thursday, outscoring the home team 37-10 in the middle two quarters. Hornung had 18 points, four rebounds, five assists and four steals, M. Willeke 16 points, seven rebounds, four steals and three assists, Tribelhorn 10 points, eight rebounds, and five assists, K. Perry four points, five rebounds and five assists, Reynolds four points and two rebounds, Routh four points, L. Perry two points, five rebounds and three assists, L. Willeke two points and three rebounds, and Hailey Juhl two rebounds.

Otis’ winning streak barely came to an end Saturday with a 43-39 overtime loss at Prairie, after Otis led by six at halftime. Statistics were not available.

LONE STAR GIRLS

Lone Star’s girls basketball team closes out the regular season this week.

The Longhorns were 8-8 heading into this past Tuesday’s home game against Prairie. They were No. 27 in the Class 1A CHSAA Selection & Seeding Index.

They won two of three games last week, but it started with a 46-33 loss at neighboring rival Otis earlier last week. They were outscored 27-11 in the middle two quarters. Aleighcea Kuntz had 19 points and seven rebounds, Jade Kuntz nine points, six rebounds, seven assists and three steals, Aimee Trejo three points, Peytyn Kuntz two points and five rebounds, and Amanda Kubitz eight rebounds.

Lone Star got back on the winning track with a 49-29 win at Deer Trail last Thursday, racing out to a 20-4 lead. J. Kuntz had 17 points, 10 assists, seven steals and seven rebounds, A. Kuntz 14 points, seven rebounds, five assists and six steals, Kubitz seven points and 13 rebounds, Paityn Forry five points and three rebounds, P. Kuntz two oints, Trejo two points and four rebounds, and Tysie Parmenter two points.

The Longhorns then got a home win over Flagler on Saturday, 57-42. J. Kuntz had 17 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists and nine steals, A. Kuntz 14 points and eight rebounds, Trejo nine points and eight rebounds, Kubitz seven points and seven rebounds, Forry seven points and Grace Cochran two points and three rebounds.

ARICKAREE BOYS

The Arickree boys basketball team is sitting in good shape as it closes out the regular season this week.

The Bison are 15-2 and No. 8 in the Class 1A CHSAA Selection & Seeding Index, with a game at Kiowa today, February 15, followed by the regular season finale Friday at home against Miami-Yoder.

They beat Denver Waldorf at home this past Monday, 56-52. Statistics were not available.

Arickaree got another win last Friday at home against Hanover, cruising to a 59-17 decision. Jake King had 12 points and three steals, Zarron Skubal 11 points and three assists, Austin Wright 10 points, 10 rebounds and four steals, Dillon Noletubby seven points and three rebounds, Jorge Ramos six points, five assists and four steals, Daniel Goff six points, Nic Hermes four points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals, and Wyatt Sperry two points.

Arickaree went 4-1 in the YWKC League, losing only to Idalia. The District 5 Tournament is next week.

The Otis High School boys basketball team is looking to finish the season with a flourish.

The Bulldogs were 10-5 heading into this past Tuesday’s away game at a tough Merino team. They host Flagler on Friday and close out the regular season Saturday at home with Genoa-Hugo/Karval coming to town.

They entered this week No. 14 in the Class 1A CHSAA Selection & Seeding Index, with the District 5 Tournament coming up next week.

Otis rolled past neighboring rival Lone Star 88-47 earlier last week. Mitchell Stivers had 19 points and four steals, Charlie Kendrick 16 points, four rebounds and five steals, Cambric Klinzmann 11 points and seven rebounds, Sawyer Packer nine points, seven rebounds and seven assists, Grady Bechtle nine points and seven rebounds, Gavin Price six points and four assists, Austin Hornung five points and three assists, Jacob Perry five points and two assists, and Ethan Gardner, Carter Benish, Tristen Stivers and Aiden Knudsen two points each.

The Bulldogs got a 50-32 win at Peetz last Thursday. Kendrick had 14 points, seven rebounds and six assists, Packer 12 points and 11 rebounds, Hornung nine points, four rebounds and four assists, Bechtle five points and seven rebounds, M. Stivers five points, Price three points, and Perry two points and five rebounds.

The Bulldogs played at Prairie on Saturday but the score was not reported.

LONE STAR BOYS

Lone Star’s boys basketball team entered the final week of the regular season with a 4-12 record.

The Longhorns hosted Prairie this past Tuesday to close out the regular season. The District 5 Tournament is next week.

Lone Star lost 88-47 at rival Otis earlier last week. Statistics were not available.

The Longhorns raced out to a 28-16 lead while on their way to a 55-33 win at Deer Trail last Thursday. Lone Star statistics were not available.

They then suffered a tough home loss Saturday to Flagler, 41-39, after the teams were tied entering the fourth quarter. Lone Star statistics were not available.
