The Arickaree girls basketball team keeps playing its way toward a postseason berth.

The Bison entered this week 8-4 overall, and No. 13 in the Class 1A CHSAA Selection & Seeding Index. They took a four-game winning streak into this past Tuesday’s game at Lone Star, and had won five of six since returning to action after the Christmas break. They host Idalia on Friday in a big game before taking a break for the YWKC Junior High Tournament.

Arickaree won its fourth straight last Friday at Bethune, 47-22, holding the Bobcats to seven points in the second half. Janiya Smith had 25 points, five steals and three assists, Julissa Quinteros eight points, 13 rebounds and five steals, Raeya Schrock eight points, six rebounds and six assists, Lilly Monat six points, seven rebounds and six steals, and Janice Kalcevic six rebounds.

LONE STAR GIRLS

The Lone Star girls basketball team is trying to keep itself in the Class 1A postseason picture.

The Longhorns were 5-6 overall and No. 24 in the 1A CHSAA Selection & Seeding Index heading into this past Tuesday’s game against Arickaree. They are at Belleview Christian on Friday before taking a break for the YWKC Junior High Tournament.

Lone Star won one of three games last week, starting with a tough 53-52 overtime loss at Weldon Valley on January 16. Jade Kuntz had 16 points, Peytyn Kuntz 10, Aimee Trejo eight, Aleighcea Kuntz six, Amanda Kubitz five, and Grace Cochran and Audrey Wade one each.

The Longhorns rebounded with a 37-24 home win over Front Range Baptist on January 18, leading 33-5 after three quarters. Paityn Forry had 12 points, J. Kuntz nine, Trejo six, Kubitz four, and Kaylee Coin, P. Kuntz and Cochran to each.

Lone Star suffered a 64-29 loss at a tough Idalia squad on Friday. Lone Star statistics were not available.

OTIS GIRLS

The Otis High School girls basketball team keeps running into challenges.

The Bulldogs were 2-6 overall, and No. 29 in the Class 1A CHSAA Seeding & Selection Index heading into this past Monday’s game at Caliche, followed by a road game at Weldon Valley on Tuesday. They are at highly-ranked Briggsdale on Friday before taking a break for the YWKC Junior High Tournament.

Otis played at Haxtun last Saturday, losing 47-33 after falling behind 17-6 in the first quarter. Otis statistics were not available.

The Otis High School boys basketball team is trying to stick around in the battle for a Class 1A postseason berth.

The Bulldogs were 4-4 overall and No. 21 in the 1A CHSAA Selection & Seeding Index heading into this past Monday’s game at Caliche, followed by a road game at Weldon Valley on Tuesday. They are at Briggsdale on Friday before taking a break for the YWKC Junior High Tournament.

Otis played at Haxtun last Saturday, cruising to a 71-49 win over a Haxtun squad that had rolled Wray just two weekends earlier. It was the second straight season in which Otis knocked off Haxtun. Otis ran out to a 20-9 lead, and was up 39-17 by halftime. Statistics were not available.

ARICKAREE BOYS

Arickaree’s boys basketball team keeps piling up the wins in its march toward the Class 1A postseason

The Bison entered this week 11-1 overall, traveling to Lone Star this past Tuesday before hosting Idalia in a big game on Friday. They then take a break for the YWKC Junior High Tournament. They are No. 11 in the 1A CHSAA Selection & Seeding Index.

They cruised to a 67-25 win at Bethune last Friday, leading 64-21 after three quarters. Austin Wright had 18 points, nine rebounds and five blocks, Nic Hermes 17 points, four assists and three each of rebounds and steals, Dillon Noletubby 15 points, nine rebounds and four steals, Jorge Ramos 13 points, seven steals and three rebounds, Yarin Quinteros two points and three rebounds, Zarron Skubal one point and three rebounds, and Daniel Goff one point.

The Longhorns entered this week 3-8 overall and No. 42 in the 1A CHSAA Selection & Seeding Index. They hosted a tough Arickaree squad this past Tuesday, and are at Belleview Christian on Friday before taking a break for the YWKC Junior High Tournament.

Lone Star dropped three games last week, beginning with a 41-40 loss at Weldon Valley on January 16. Lone Star statistics were not available.

The Longhorns host Front Range Baptist last Thursday, losing 64-31. Lone Star statistics were not available.

Lone Star then played at Idalia last Friday, losing 68-31. Statistics again were not available.
