1A hoops report: LS girls moving up

Lone Star’s girls basketball team came out of the holiday break last week with a pair of wins.
The Longhorns now are 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the YWKC League. They are No. 8 in the Class 1A Rating Percentage Index, and No. 6 in the 1A Top 10. They are at Fleming today, February 13, for a Top 10 showdown.
Lone Star returned to competition on January 4, claiming a 51-31 home win over Idalia. Aleighcea Kuntz had 21 points and two rebounds, Alivia Weathers 15 points, three rebounds and three steals, Lamya Kuntz eight points, four steals and three rebounds and Alison Davis six points, two rebounds and two assists. Ana Lockard added two rebounds, Hailey Forry two steals, and Amanda Kubitz one rebound.
They hosted Front Range Baptist in a non-league game on Friday, winning 66-25. A. Kuntz had 18 points, five rebounds and three steals, L. Kuntz 13 points, five rebounds and five steals, Weathers 13 points, four rebounds, four steals and three assists, Davis nine points, four rebounds and three assists, Forry five points, Kubitz four points and five rebounds, and Lockard four points.

OTIS GIRLS

The Otis girls basketball team came out of the holiday break with a league win, last Friday.
The Longhorns claimed a 37-25 win at Bethune, improving to 2-5 overall, 1-0 in YWKC play. They host Idalia on Friday, travel to Caliche on Saturday, and play at Fleming on Monday.
Alli Hornung had 13 points and five steals for the Bulldogs in the win at Bethune. Hailey Stivers had 12 points, seven rebounds and six steals, Rowan Tribelhorn eight points, nine rebounds and three assists, Jayce Perry two points and two steals, Kayce Perry two points, five rebounds and three steals, Arlene Bencomo nine rebounds, seven steals and three assists, and Madelyn Willeke five rebounds and four steals. Alexa Bencomo and Layce Perry each had two rebounds.

AW GIRLS
The Arickaree/Woodlin basketball teams are at Hi-Plains on Friday after returning from the holiday break last weekend with a pair of losses.
The Indian Mustangs also are at Flagler on Saturday.
They hosted a tough Stratton team last Friday, suffering a 65-43 loss. No stats were available for Arickaree/Woodlin.
The Indian Mustangs pulled out a 27-22 win over Rocky Mountain Lutheran on Saturday. The game was tight throughout, but Arickaree/Woodlin held a seven-point advantage in the second half. No stats for A/W were available at press time.

LONE STAR BOYS
The Lone Star boys basketball team suffered a couple of losses coming out of the Christmas break, last week.
They returned to action January 4 at Idalia, losing 75-30. Dakoda Cox had 12 points and four steals, Grant Kuntz eight points and four rebounds, Wyatt Cochran five points, seven rebounds and five assists, Ethan Glenn three points, Abraham Martinez two points, six rebounds and three assists, and Owen Glenn one rebound.
Lone Star hosted Front Range Baptist on Friday, losing 42-28. Cochran had 13 points, seven rebounds and three assists, Cox seven points, five rebounds and two assists, Kuntz four points and seven rebounds, Martinez two points and five rebounds, E. Glenn two points, and O. Glenn two rebounds.
The Longhorns are at Fleming today, January 13, host Bethune on Saturday and are at Weldon Valley on Tuesday.

OTIS BOYS
The Otis boys basketball team had a nice start to 2022, picking up a league win last Friday.
The Bulldogs won 76-60 at Bethune, improving to 4-3 overall, 1-0 in YWKC League play. They host Idalia on Frirday, and are at Caliche on Saturday.
Otis jumped out to a lead at Bethune, last Friday, and gradually built on it throughout the game. Jack Willeke had 22 points and 18 rebounds, Sawyer Packer 19 points and seven rebounds, Charlie Kendrick 18 points, 10 rebounds, and five steals, Carter Wells eight points and four rebounds, Erick Thorn five points, five assists and five rebounds, Taylor Ringlein four points, four rebounds and five assists, and JJ Ward three rebounds and seven assists. Kaleb Jones added one assist.

A/W BOYS
The Arickaree/Woodlin boys basketball team is at Hi-Plains on Friday and Flagler on Saturday after returning to action last week with two losses.
The Indian Mustangs hosted Stratton last Friday for the first game of 2022, losing 63-39. Details and statistics were not available.
They played Rocky Mountain Lutheran on Saturday, suffering a 55-35 loss. A/W led after the first quarter, but was outscored 35-14 in the middle quarters. No A/W stats were available at press time.
