1A track and field report

Area Class 1A track and field athletes should be able to enjoy nicer weather for the second weekend of competition.

Tracksters from Otis, Lone Star and Arickaree opened their season last Saturday in the Yuma Early Qualifier, dealing with cold temperatures and a strong wind out of the south. All go to the University Bulldogs Invitational Saturday in Greeley, where it is expected to be around 70 degrees with little wind.

Otis

The Bulldogs had several placing efforts at the Yuma Early Qualfier.

The boys scored 35 points to finish eighth in the team standings, while the girls posted nine points for 11th.

Sawyer Packer won the triple jump with a distance of 40-foot-0.25, and was third in the long jump at 18-9.5. Jacob Perry placed eighth in the discus with a toss of 98-4.

In the open races, Cambric Klinzmann took sixth in the 100 dash in 13.1 seconds, and seventh in the 200 in 25.3.

The 4-by-200 relay team of Emiliano Varela, Tayshaun Thomas, Erick Thorn and Klinzmann placed second in 1:43.34. The 4-by-100 relay team of Varela, Bohden Klinzmann, Thorn and C. Klinzmann placed fourth in 50.52 seconds, and the throwers 4-by-100 crew of Koden McPheron, Aiden Kundsen, Gracen Bechtle and Tristen Stivers was fourth in 57.63 seconds.

For the girls, Lydia Willeke placed fourth in the 1600-meter run with a time of 7:00.91, and Madelyn Willeke placed fifth in the 100 hurdles in 20.56 seconds.

Lone Star

The Longhorns saw its boys team score 28 points to place ninth in the team standings, and the girls 16 points for 10th at the Yuma Early Qualifier.

Anderson Weathers won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 17.53 seconds, and took third in the 300 hurdles in 47.28 seconds.

Wyatt Cochran whipped the discus 112-foot-2 for third place.

The 4-by-100 relay team of Grant Kuntz, Jayden Sporing, Weathers and Brock Fisher placed third in 49.67 seconds.

The girls’ 800 sprint medley team of Peytyn Kuntz, Paityn Forry, Emmalee Gailus and Jade Kuntz placed second in 2:10.56, and the 4-by-100 team of Forry, Makenzie Kucera, P. Kuntz and Katie Etl was third in 59.1 seconds.

Kucera placed eighth in the 100 in 15.34 seconds, and P. Kuntz eighth in the 100 hurdles 20.95 seconds.

Arickaree

The Bison’s boys scored 40 points to finish seventh in the team standings at the Yuma Early Qualifier.

Austin Wright won the 800 run in 2 minutes, 21.61 seconds, and Jorge Ramos was sixth in 2:25.99. Wright placed second in the 400 dash in 57.62 seconds, while Zarron Skubal was fourth in 59.24, and Ramos sixth in 1:00.53.

Wright also cleared 5-foot-4 in the high jump to place fifth, and whipped the discus 109-6 for fifth. Skubal put the shot 36-0.75 for sixth place.
