Lone Star’s girls basketball team has extended its season for at least one more game.
The Longhorns have qualified for 32-team 1A regional field as the 28th seed. They will make a short trip north to Fleming, where they will play the No. 5 Wildcats on Friday at 5 p.m. It is the most regional of all regionals as Idalia and Weldon Valley are the other two teams. Friday’s winners will meet in the Sweet 16 Saturday at 1 p.m.
Lone Star enters the postseason 8-13, going 1-2 in the NCL/YWKC Tournament last week in Sterling.
The Longhorns played another thriller against Otis, last Saturday in the seventh-place game. After losing at Otis in overtime on February 10, the Longhorns returned the favor with a 52-50 win at Sterling High School. The teams traded holding the lead at the end of each quarter, but it was the Longhorns on top at the end.
Jade Kuntz had 17 points, 11 rebounds and five assists, Peytyn Kung 17 points and three rebounds, Bryn Cook 11 points and seven rebounds, Rosie Fisher five points, Aleya Etl two points and eight rebounds, and Grace Cochran seven rebounds.
The Longhorns opened tourney play earlier last week with a 60-42 loss to Prairie. J. Kuntz had 17 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals, P. Kuntz 14 points and three assists, Cook seven points and four rebounds, Fisher two points and six rebounds, Cochran two points, and Tayah Wade four rebounds.
They followed with a 46-23 loss to Hi-Plains last Friday. J. Kuntz had 16 points and nine rebounds, P. Kuntz three points and two rebounds, Cook two points and three rebounds, Fisher two points, Cochran six rebounds, and Etl five rebounds.
OTIS GIRLS
The Otis High School girls basketball team concluded its season last week in the NCL/YWKC Tournament in Sterling.

Otis lost 55-34 at Fleming earlier last week. Madison Reynolds had eight points, Lydia Willeke seven points and four rebounds, Aedyn Tribelhorn five points and six rebounds, Hattie Price four points, Mireia Fernandez three points and three rebounds, Ashton Gross three points and three rebounds, Kensley Packer two points and seven rebounds, Autumn Maggard two points and three rebounds, and Raya Grimes-Routh six rebounds.
The Bulldogs lost 63-40 to Briggsdale last Friday. Otis statistics were not available.
They concluded the season Saturday with a heartbreaking 52-50 loss to Lone Star after leading by one entering the fourth quarter. Otis statistics were not available.
The Bulldogs finished with a 4-18 record. Aedyn Tribelhorn and Madison Reynolds were the only seniors.
OTIS BOYS
Otis High School’s boys basketball team will be attempting to return to the 1A Great 8 again when it plays in regional at Elbert this weekend.

The Bulldogs are 17-6 and No. 9 in the 32-team regional field. They play 24th-seed Rocky Mountain Lutheran Friday at 5:30 p.m. Eighth-seed Elbert will play 25th-seed Cheraw in the other game. The winners meet in the Sweet 16 Saturday at 1 p.m.
Otis closed out the regular season by placing second in the NCL/YWKC Tournament in Sterling.
The Bulldogs opened with a 79-55 win over Fleming last Monday.
They then played Peetz in Friday’s semifinal, winning 57-47. Otis statistics were not available.
That put them into Saturday’s championship game against Prairie, losing 47-37. Statistics were not available.
ARICKAREE BOYS
The Arickaree boys basketball team has qualified for the 1A regional, but the Bison face a daunting task.
They are the 32nd seed in the 32-team field. They play at top-seed McClave on Friday at 2 p.m. Granada, the 16th seed, and 17th-seed Evangelical Christian Academy are the other teams in that regional. The winners play in the Sweet 16 on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
Arickaree is 10-13 after winning one of three games in the NCL/YWKC Tournament last week in Sterling.
The Bison opened with a 65-29 loss to Peetz last Monday.
They played Fleming on Friday, losing 53-27. Austin Wright had 11 points, seven rebounds and four steals, Jaxson Cordell eight points and four rebounds, Colten Sperry three points, Bradley Hermes two points and three rebounds, Daniel Goff two points and two rebounds, Wyatt Sperry one point and two rebounds, and Jack Coraor two assists and two steals.
Arickaree played Bethune on Saturday in the seventh-place game, winning 63-35. Wright had 17 points, seven rebounds and six steals, Cordell 16 points and six rebounds, Goff 12 points and 10 rebounds, Hermes eight points and five rebounds, Sperry five points and four rebounds, Oliver Hambelton three points, and Collin Davis two points and two rebounds.

Anderson Weathers had 15 points, Trevor Scheopner eight points and 10 rebounds, James Smith seven points and three rebounds, Jack Glenn four points, six rebounds and seven assists, Henry Glenn four points and five rebounds, Ian Pastor three points, seven rebounds and five steals, Aden Glenn two points, and Will Mollohan and Brock Fisher two rebounds each.
Lone Star lost 60-43 to Weldon Valley on Saturday. H. Glenn had 16 oints and four rebounds, J. Glenn nine points and four rebounds, Scheopner four points and six rebounds, A. Glenn five pionts and three rebounds, Smith four points and four rebounds, Pastor four points, Weathers one point and four rebounds, Mollohan three rebounds, and Fisher one rebound.
The Longhorns finished 3-18. This season’s seniors were Anderson Weathers, Jack Glenn, and Brock Fisher.
