A handful of Yuma High School student/athletes will be competing in the Class 2A Track and Field Championships, Thursday through Saturday at Jefferson County Stadium in Lakewood.
”Our outlook is that we are going to go do our best and have fun doing it,” head coach Lucas Lubbers said. “Wherever we end up is where we end up.”
Daphani Allen is in four individual events. The sophomore is the top seed in the 200- and 400-meter dashes, fifth in the 100 and fifth in the long jump.
Freshman Raylee Blach is eighth in the triple jump, and freshman Adeline Noble is 15th in the discus.
Yuma’s girls also are the 10th seed in the 4-by-400 relay, the 11th in the 4-by-11 and 17th in the 4-by-200. Yaretsi Marquez, Sadee Mosenteen, Emory Mcclaran and Layla Glanz will be in the 4-by-100. The 4-by-200 and 4-by-400 will be Blach, Mosenteen, Mcclaran and Glanz.
Allen will compete in the long jump today, May 14, at 2 p.m. She will be in the 100 prelims at about the same time, the 200 prelim at 5:45, and the 400 prelim at 6:50. She placed in the long jump and has qualified for the finals in all three sprints.

Blach will be in the triple jump at 10 a.m. Friday. Noble is in the discus competition at 8:30 a.m. Friday. Noble placed ninth.
The 4-by-100 prelim is set for 9:15 a.m. Friday. The 4-by-200 is at 1:40 p.m. Friday. The 4-by-400 prelim is set for 3:35 p.m.
The 2A girls 100 final is Saturday at 10:37 a.m., the 400 final at 11:37 a.m., and the 200 final at 1:18 p.m. The 4-by-100 final is set for 3:15 p.m., and the 4-by-400 at 4:40 p.m.
Alan Flores has qualified in the 800-meter run as the 14th seed, and Manuel Varela is the 13th seed in the long jump.
Varela will compete in the long jump at 8:30 a.m. Friday. He did not place.
Flores will be in the 800-meter final at 1:05 p.m. He ended up placing sixth with a school-record 1:59:51.
Flores and Allen both now hold multiple school records they set this season.
