Youth baseball tourney this weekend

The Jeff Armstrong Ball Park complex will be hot in terms of game action and weather this weekend.

A total of 18 teams will be in town for the annual Jeff Armstrong Memorial Tournament, playing in the 10U and 12U divisions.

There will be plenty of live action on the fields. And it will be plenty hot. The high on Friday, when the first games will be played in the evening, is supposed to 107 degrees. The high onSaturday is forecast to be 106, with a bit of a cool-down on Sunday with a high in the 90s.

There are 10 teams in the 12U division, split into two five-team pools.

Pool A consists of Yuma, Renegades, Sandhillers, Wiggins and Haxtun. Pool B includes Brush, Bombers, Hitmen, Explosion and Fort Morgan.

Yuma will play the Renegades at 9 a.m. Saturday, followed by playing Wiggins at 11 a.m. Pool play will continue all day with the final games set for 5 p.m.

The 12U teams will be put into a tournament bracket for Sunday. Play-in games will be at 9 a.m., the quarterfinals at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., and the semifinals at 3 p.m. The championship game will be played at 5.

The eight teams in 10U are Yuma, Brush, Highway Sixers, Tigers, TC Storm, Longhorns, Sandhillers, and Akron.

They will play a double-elimination bracket. The first games will be played Friday at 6 p.m. with Yuma taking on Akron, and Longhorns and Sandhillers facing off. Tournament plays continues Saturday with games beginning at 9 a.m., and the last game at 3 p.m. The teams will continue to play Sunday with the championship game at 3 p.m., followed by a second one if necessary. There also will be a seventh-place game Sunday so all teams play at least three games.

There is no admission fee.
