Medicare Part D sign up begins October 15

Were you among the over 600 participants who saved more than $318,000 in prescription drug costs and insurance premiums during last year’s Medicare Part D “drug” open enrollment season? The SHIP (State Health Insurance Assistance Program) trained and certified counselors worked hard to save you every dollar they could, and they are ready once again.

Medicare Part D season is upon us. Enrollment opens October 15 and runs through December 7. The committed Yuma County Medicare Part D Volunteer Committee, in partnership with the Yuma County Council on Aging, and the State Health Insurance Program would like to encourage all Medicare beneficiaries to check his/her plans for current medication and plan changes for 2026. Everyone needs to check his/her coverage to be sure there are no changes for next year.

Trained and certified counselors will be available in Wray to assist in reviewing your current coverage and enrolling you in a new plan, if needed. An appointment is required to meet with a counselor.

For appointment scheduling in Yuma, contact Yuma Public Library at (970) 848-2368. The counseling site in Yuma will be inside the Yuma Public Library this year. It will be shortest distance for beneficiaries if you park on the west side of the building, on Ash Street. A greeter will assist you when you arrive at the library for your appointment. Majority of appointments in Yuma will be held on Thursdays during the open enrollment period.

Please bring your medication bottles/packaging and your Medicare card with you to your appointment. Without these items, the meeting cannot be completed at the appointment.

There are many Medicare beneficiaries who have not taken advantage of the low-income programs or may not know about them. Volunteers are here to help you understand these programs and to see if you qualify for the extra help. Our trained counselors will refer you to see a representative from The N.E. Colorado Area Agency on Aging for the application process.

The Medicare Part D Volunteer Committee has worked hard to provide Yuma County with Medicare Part D insurance counseling since 2006 and is looking forward to making sure you have the best possible plan and services to meet your needs.

Don’t forget, you should have your plan checked before the December 7 deadline.

Call 848-2368 in Yuma today to schedule your appointment.

We would like to thank our past sponsors for helping provide this free service: Yuma County Council on Aging, Yuma District Hospital, Shop-All, Foltmer Drug, Community Cupboard, Yuma Public Library, and the Yuma Lions Club. Also, this committee was the recipient of a Yuma Community Foundation grant for new computer equipment, to use at the Yuma appointments and that generosity is greatly appreciated.

Be a smart consumer by checking your explanation of benefits when they come in the mail.

Make sure to have seen your health care providers and discussed the medications you are currently taking before your Medicare Part D review.

Volunteers look forward to seeing you soon!
