6-man, 1A volleyball

The gauntlet now begins for the Otis High School football team.

The Bulldogs are 6-0 and No. 4 in the CHSAA 6-man Selection & Seeding index, rolling past Briggsdale 85-28 last Friday in Otis.

However, now comes the daunting stretch run to end the regular season. It begins Friday night when they are at No. 5 Stratton, which is 4-2 after beating No. 10 Granada 54-20 last Saturday. The Bulldogs then close out the regular season against No. 1 Idalia at home, and road trips to No. 2 Peetz and No. 3 Eads.

All games against the other teams currently in the 6-man top five.

The Bulldogs got in one last breather last Friday against the Falcons of Briggsdale with a 57-point win.

Otis had 493 total yards, including 419 on the ground on 20 carries, an average of 21 yards per attempt. Mitchell Stivers ran for 295 yards and six touchdowns on 13 carries, Cambric Klinzmann 102 yards and two touchdown on six carries, and Blake Stivers had a 22-yard TD run. Austin Hornung, back from injury, completed four of nine passes for 74 yards and two touchdowns. M. Stivers had a 28-yard TD catch, Klinzmann a four-yard TD catch, Tristen Stivers one for 24 yards, and Emiliano Varela one for 18.

Defensively, M. Stivers grabbed two interceptions, and T. Stivers recovered a fumble. Klinzmann was in on 12 total tackles, Gracen Bechtle nine, Hornung eight, Varela seven, M. Stivers four, Grady Bechtle three, T. Stivers three, Malakye Reese two, B. Stivers two, Travis Wood two, Raegan Torres two, and Austin Sauer and Hayden Chambers one each.

ARICKAREE FOOTBALL

Arickaree’s football team might get a little of a break heading into the final stretch of the regular season.

The Bison are 2-5 and No. 13 in the CHSAA 6-man Selection & Seeding Index, losing 64-0 last Friday at No. 1 Idalia. Their other four losses have come against No. 3 Eads. No, 4 Otis, No. 5 Stratton and No. 2 Peetz.

Arickaree is at 0-5 Cotopaxi on Saturday, then close out the regular season against 1-4 Genoa-Hugo and 0-5 North Park.

Idalia, which has been rolling everyone this season, ran out to a 34-0 lead over Arickaree in the first quarter. The Wolves held Arickaree to 73 total yards. Austin Fields had 18 yards rushing, Jorge Ramos 12, Jaxson Cordell seven and Austin Wright three. Wright completed six of 13 pass attempts for 33 yards. Luis Machado had two catches for 13 yards, Colton Sperry one for nine yards, Ramos two for eight yards, and Cordell one for four.

Fields was in on eight total tackles, Wright seven, Ramos seven, Page five, Sperry four and Machado four.

OTIS VOLLEYBALL

The Otis High School volleyball team keeps sticking around the upper end of the CHSAA 1A Selection & Seeding Index.

The Bulldogs were 11-5 and No. 7 in the Index heading into this past Tuesday’s match at Prairie. They are at Stratton on Friday.

They split two matches last week. First up was a 20-25, 14-25, 17-25 loss at No. 1 Fleming last Thursday. Kinsley Packer had two kills, Ashton Gross two, Lydia Willeke one, Madison Reynolds one, and Hailey Juhl one. Crysten Goble recorded 15 setting assists. Reynolds was 9-11 serving with one ace, Goble 8-9, Willeke 6-6 with two aces, Raya Grimes-Routh 6-7, and Pakcer 5-9.

Otis hosted Briggsdale on Friday and came away with a tightly-contested win, 28-26, 26-24 and 25-13. Aideyn Tribelhorn had 20 kills, Packer 10, Goble four, Willeke four, Gross three and Hailey Juhl three. Goble had 33 assists. Goble was 12-15 serving, Willeke 12-12, Reynolds 12-14 with two aces, Packer 12-13, Tribelhorn 8-11 with four aces, and Grimes-Routh 11-13.

LONE STAR VOLLEYBALL

Lone Star’s volleyball team is staying in the race for a postseason berth.

The Longhorns are 7-6 and No. 21 in the CHSAA 1A Selection & Seeding Index heading into the match at St. Francis, Kansas, today, October 9. They are at the Stratton Bash on Saturday.

Lone Star won two matches last week. The first was a 25-14, 25-13, 25-18 win at Deer Trail. Jade Kuntz had 11 kills, Paityn Forry seven, Grace Cochran five, Audrey Wade five, and Kaylee Coin three. Cochran had 22 setting assists. Wade went 18-24 serving with one ace, Cochran 13-13 with two aces, Kuntz 11-12 with one ace, Forry 10-10 with one ace, Peytyn Kuntz 9-9 with one ace, and Bryn Cook 7-7.

The Longhorns were back in action last Thursday at home against Idalia, winning 17-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-21 to go above .500. J. Kuntz had 16 kills, Wade 12, P. Kuntz four, Forry four, and Cochran two. Cochran had 34 setting assists. Forry was 16-16 serving, Wade 16-17 with two aces, P. Kuntz 15-18 with three aces, J. Kuntz 13-15 with two aces, Cochran 11-11, and Cook 12-13 with one ace.
