Renea Mathies 1949-2025

Renea Susanne (Heltenberg) Mathies was born on October 25,1949 in Yuma, Colorado to Roy and Grace (Turnbull) Heltenberg. She was the fourth of eight children. She attended grade school in Hyde, Colorado until it was closed and then attended Otis. She later finished by receiving her GED.

Renea married her lifetime spouse Steven Mathies on November 4, 1966. During these years they had three children, Michael, Brian, and Kimberley. They resided in northeastern Colorado. Joes, Cope, Yuma, Wray.

Renea had a long work history. There were a few that were for many years. She worked at the Wray Community District Hospital, had in-home daycare and then last she was at Ace Hardware in Wray for the past 15 years. She loved to work and be around the public.

Renea loved collecting Indian art and trinkets. When the weather permitted, she was always outside doing yardwork or gardening. Every summer she went on a trip with her sisters and went hiking. She enjoyed traveling, fishing, and she loved bowling. Every time we had a family get together, she always had to bring the potato salad or rolls because if you asked anyone in the family they were the best.

Renea was always willing to help anyone that needed it. Whether it was for a day or a month it didn’t matter to her. She would give you help, or support in any way she could. If you received help from her, she didn’t expect anything in return because that is not what mattered.

Renea was preceded in death by her parents Roy and Grace Heltenberg, in-laws Glen and Zenelda Mathies, nephew Rodney Heltenberg and niece Dana (Heltenberg) Calhoun.
