Otis, Lone Star travel for 1A regional

Otis High School’s volleyball team will go on the road for the Class 1A regional round.

The Bulldogs, the 19th seed in the 24-team regional field, has a familiar opponent in regional as they travel to sixth-seed Stratton on Saturday for a 10 a.m. match. The top 12 teams in 1A each host a one-match regional, with the winners of those advancing to the state tournament next week in Denver.

Stratton is 17-6, including a win over Otis on October 10.

The Bulldogs are 12-11, concluding the regular season by splitting two matches last week.

It began with a 3-0 home win over Kit Carson earlier last week. Individual set scores were not available. Kensley Packer pounded 17 kills, Lydia Willeke seven, Ashton Gross three, Crysten Goble two, and Hattie Price, Karsyn Ringlein, Madison Reynolds and Hailey Juhl one each. Goble had 22 setting assists, and Price, Willeke and Reynolds two each. Otis served 97.3 percent. Reynolds was 16-16 serving with three aces, Packer 14-15 with one ace, Willeke 12-12 with one ace, Goble 12-13 with two aces, Raya Grimes-Routh 10-10 with two aces, and Juhl 8-8 with two aces.

Otis concluded the regular season last Saturday with a 3-0 loss at Eads, 17-25, 14-25, 17-25. Otis statistics were not available. Eads is the 14th seed in regional.

Lone Star’s long trip

Lone Star’s volleyball team has a long road trip for the 1A regionals.

The Longhorns are the 17th seed in the 24-team field. They go to eighth-seed Sargent for a one-match regional at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Sargent is a roughly five-hour road trip, about 300 miles away west of Salida in southwest Colorado.

Lone Star is 14-9. The Longhorns had last week off after concluding the regular season on October 24.

Sargent is 21-2 and won the 1A Southern Peaks league. The Farmers concluded the regular season last Saturday with a 3-0 sweep of 2A Byers, also beating Limon and Fowler via sweep in the Limon Tournament.
