Andrews Bros. Seed wins co-ed title

The Andrews Bros. Seed team swept through the field to capture the 2020 title of the Yuma Recreation Department’s Co-ed Softball League Tournament, last week at the Jeff Armstrong Ball Park Complex.
The tournament began with 3 Bros. beating La Tribe 14-5, and 21st Century Equipment knocking off Hangovers, 21-3.

Andrews Bros. Seed then dispatched 3 Bros 17-7, and Log Cabin shutout 21st Century 11-0 in the winner’s bracket.
Those games set up the loser’s bracket first round, where 3 Bros. knocked Hangovers out of the tournament, 16-1, and La Tribe sent 21st Century packing with a 15-9 win.
3 Bros. then survived with a 20-10 win over La Tribe.
In the winner’s bracket, Andrews edged past Log Cabin, 12-11, to advance to the championship, and sending Log Cabin into the loser’s bracket final.
Log Cabin responded with a 19-8 win over 3 Bros. to set up a rematch in the championship round, but needing two wins over Andrews to claim the title.
The Andrews squad did not let that happen, pulling away from Log Cabin late for a 14-7 win in a well-played game by both teams.
Playing for Andrews Bros. Seed this summer were Sam Baucke, Kiera Mekelburg, Cesar Trejo, Annsley Ferrari, Kelby Andrews, Sam Wells, Jordan Sprouse, Jenna Blach, Andrian Vasquez and Amanda Cook.
The season was shorter than most years, lasting only six weeks, but the league was able to be played thanks to the hard work of the City of Yuma Recreation staff, led by Ron Wills.
