Mascot Madness down to final week

Yuma School District-1’s Mascot Madness is down to the final two.
It will be announced Tuesday morning who survived this week’s Final 4 between Outlaws, Pioneers, Raptors and Aggies.
Outlaws went up against Pioneers this week, while Raptors took on Aggies.
The winners of those showdowns will face off in the finals next week.
Voting on the Final Four opened Tuesday, and closes Friday at 12 noon. Voting for the champion will begin Tuesday morning, and close at noon next Friday, September 22. As usual, one can vote by accessing the Google form found at the district’s website and Facebook page, or email your selections to [email protected], or hand deliver your votes to the District Office at 1115 S. Ash St.
Knocked out during Elite 8 voting last week were Yotes/Coyotes, Threshers, Bison and Hawks. There were 1,044 votes cast, down about 200 from the Sweet 16 voting.
Outlaws beat Yotes/Coyotes 573-378, with 93 ballots left blank.
Pioneers outpaced Threshers 619-234, with 191 ballots left blank.
Raptors took down Bison in a close one, 479-425, with 140 left blank.
Aggies received 510 votes to Hawks’ 361, with 173 ballots left blank.
Previously eliminated were Cyclones, Vipers, Storm/Red Storm, Stallions, Antelopes/Lopers, Wildcats, Yuma Nation and Yetis.
Following next week’s finals, Yuma-1’s new mascot will be announced September 29, in time for Homecoming Week in early October.
