No. 2 Otis hosts quarterfinal Saturday

The Otis High School football team is in the Class A 6-man quarterfinals for the second consecutive season.

The second-seed Bulldogs will host seventh-seed Branson/Kim on Saturday at 1 p.m. Otis advanced out of the first round with a 56-14 home win over 15th-seed Primero last Saturday, while Branson/Kim held off 10th-seed Peetz 39-37 at home. All the higher-seeded teams won in the first round last weekend.
The winner on Saturday will meet the winner of the Granada/Cheyenne Wells game next week in the semifinals.
Branson/Kim comes to town with an 8-2 record. The Bearcats were locked in a game-long battle with Peetz last Saturday, outscoring the Bulldogs 12-8 in the second half to pull out the two-point win. Otis beat Peetz 62-48 in the regular season finale.
The Bulldogs improved to 9-1 with their win last Saturday against the Bulldogs of Primero.
Otis wasted little time on a beautiful fall afternoon, racing out to a 40-0 lead in the first quarter. The home team led 50-0 by halftime.
Otis needed only 225 yards to rack up all those points. The Bulldogs played complementary football Emiliano Varela and Sawyer Packer both returned an interception for a touchdown, and Charlie Kendrick had a punt return for a touchdown. Packer had two interceptions, and Austin Hornung also had a pick.
Mitchell Stivers ran for 114 yards and two touchdowns on just five carries, Erick Thorn 57 yards and one TD on four rushes, Eric Bintliff five yards and a score, and Garrett Patterson eight yards. Gavin Price completed a 45-yard touchdown pass to Varela.
Hornung, Varela, Malakye Reese and Bohden Klinzmann each had four tackles, Blake Stivers and Erick Thorn three each, Stivers and Kendrick two each, and Price one.
