YMS girls having a good run
Yuma Middle School’s A-team picked up a pair of big wins over the past week, along with more victories from the other YMS teams.
The young Indians were at Sterling Middle School last Saturday, splitting four games with the Tigers.
The A-team won 35-26, leading from start to finish. Alena Moran had nine points and six rebounds, Emma Rayl eight points and three assists, Jailyn Mekelburg six points and five rebounds, Ashley Ibanez five points, five steals and two rebounds, Brianna Yanez five points, two rebounds and two steals, Isabella Young two points and four rebounds, and Jade Lungwitz two steals.
The B-team was close, but lost 27-23. Yaretzi Castillo had nine points, five assists and five steals, Lungwitz six points and two steals, Amelia Ptacnik four points, Jordan Glanz four points and two rebounds, Elizabeth Mendoza four rebounds, Cheyanne McCreath three rebounds, Wendy Garcia two rebounds and two steals, and Natalia Serrano two steals.
The C-team lost in the final seconds, 20-18. Ptacnik had eight points, Castillo six, Serrano two and Mendoza two.
The D-team won 16-10, with eights each by Jamie Gardner and Gabby Varela. Also playing were Myka McDonald, Kennedy Serl, Mallely Valenzuela, Nubia Sosa, Jessica Apodaca, Jacqueline Olivas and Mayline Grayton.
YMS was at Fort Morgan this past Tuesday.
The A-Team won 35-20. Moran had 19 points, five rebounds and two steals, Ibanez 10 points, 11 steals and four rebounds, Rayl two points, six assists and five steals, Young two points and four rebounds, Yanez two points and one rebound, and Lungwitz two rebounds.
The B-team got a big win, 24-17. Erin Allen had eight points, three rebounds and four steals, Castillo eight points, four steals and two points, Lungwitz two points, two rebounds and two steals, Mendoza two points, five rebounds and two steals, Serrano two points and five rebounds, Lungwitz two points, two rebounds and two steals, Braylynn Armstrong two points and one rebound, Garcia two rebounds, Glanz two rebounds, and Ptacnik one rebound.
C and D team reports from Fort Morgan will be available later.

YMS wrestlers
The Yuma Middle School wrestlers competed at the Brush Tournament, last Saturday.
Brandon Lueck took first place at 128 pounds, Trey Stegman second at 136, Damian Brown second at 95, and Jiovani Perez fourth at 94. Tayshaun Thomas wrestled at 84 pounds, Nadia Carias at 92, Camilia Sanchez at 95, Adrian Carranza at 105, Lucas Gordon at 110, Hugo Montes at 111, Miles Clark at 119, Jonathan Thompson at 122, and Brian Coyle at 128.

JV boys
The Yuma High School JV boys basketball team split two games last weekend.
The Indians held off Wiggins 55-53 last Friday in Yuma. Bryson Castillo had 14 points, Jesus Ross nine, Javier Duran nine, Beau Tate eight, Lane Remmich six, Andre Baucke four, Forest Rutledge three and Kobe Rayl two.
Yuma lost 44-39 at Sidney, Nebraska, on Saturday. Tate had 11 points, Rayl seven, Duran six, Castillo five, Ross four, Jaxson Lungwitz two, Remmich two and Rutledge two.

C-team girls
Yuma High School’s girls C-team split two games last weekend.
The Indians beat Wiggins at home last Friday, 32-14. Hailey Eyring had 11 points, Lyndsey Mekelburg six, Liddy Day five, Jazmin Sotelo five, Karina Rascon three and Julissa Poblete two.
Yuma lost 42-21 at Sidney, Nebraska, on Saturday. Eyring had seven points, Sotelo four, Rascon three, April Poblete three, Mekelburg two, Day one and J. Poblete one.
