Terry was born on April 6, 1960 in Burlington, Co, the second child of Rosaline Fadenrecht Idler and Allen Idler and took his final his flight to heaven on February 17, 2021 in Nashville Tennessee.
When Terry was small, he and his parents along with older sister Tammy traveled the western United States while his Dad installed electric power lines in the mountain areas of Colorado, Utah, Nevada and Montana.
The family settled in Burlington, Colorado when Terry was a young child. When Terry was 16 his parents divorced and Terry and his mom moved to Malta, Montana. While in high school in Burlington and Malta, he became a star running back setting records. Terry also was a state champion in track 2 years winning the 100 yard dash. As a wrestling champion, he traveled to Germany after graduation to compete against world class wrestlers. Terry was inducted into the Montana State High School Hall of Fame in 2017.
After high school Terry enrolled at University of Idaho, a Vandal forever, on a football scholarship. Terry set rushing and touchdown records in his freshman and sophomore years. Unfortunately in his junior year his football career was over when he suffered severe knee injuries.
After graduation and a short career in the banking world, Terry started working in a glass factory in Vancouver, Washington. While working in Vancouver, he began his dream career by taking pilot lessons. Terry’s flying career began by flying tourists for Scenic flights over Mount St. Helens. Terry then moved to Alaska to fly cargo planes to the remote areas of Alaska, he said that he would land anywhere there was a flat surface, whether it was a frozen river or lake. Terry then moved to Las Vegas flying scenic flights for tourists over the Grand Canyon. On one flight the weather turned bad, he looked for a place to land, no problem we will just land on the highway. He then was hired as a First Officer with Sky West Airlines, he started out based in Salt Lake City for a short time then was transferred to Sacramento, Ca. About 1 year later Terry was hired by America West and moved to Phoenix. While living in Phoenix, America West bought and merged with U.S. Airways. Terry continued to fly out of Phoenix for several years. American Airlines then merged with U. S Air.
In 2014 Terry met the love of his life Kelly and they moved to Nashville. Terry reached his dream professional goal when he was promoted to Captain at American. Three years ago, Terry was deadheading to Los Angeles when he suffered a seizure. He had brain surgery in 2017 and had to wait 2 years for medical clearance to resume flying. It was on his initial flight the week before Christmas 2019, when Terry was not feeling well and on Christmas Day he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. After 14 months of fighting the disease, Terry started his next chapter in Heaven.
Terry is survived by his wife Kelly of Nashville, daughter Emilie and son Zack of Phoenix, stepsons Tristan and Austin Gentry, stepdaughter Julia Gentry, of Nashville, sister Tammy (Glenn) Bowman and family of Salina, Kansas, half sister Darcy Idler and family of Gillette Wy, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and so many friends he made through out his life. He was preceded in death by his mother Rose Woods, father Allen Idler, grandparents Edgar and Helen Fadenrecht and Charlie and Louise Idler and many other relatives.
Also survived by aunts and uncles, Richard and Karen Fadenrecht of Aurora, Walt and Peggy Fadenrecht of Pueblo, Gene and Connie Fadenrecht of Joes, Linda and Ora Packer of Yuma, Betty Warriner of Westminster and Barbara Brittain of Florida.
