The Yuma County Softball team will make its Yuma debut this season on Saturday.
YCS will be hosting the Forge Christian Fury for a doubleheader at the Yuma field beginning at 11 a.m.
The team went 2-2 at the Platte Valley/Valley Tournament last weekend, and played in a triangular in Burlington this past Tuesday.
YCS opened it season last Friday, losing its first game 16-3 to The Academy. Ellie Oestman had two hits and one run, Grace Jones one hit and three RBI, Gemma Oestman one run, Lauren Gdanitz one hit, and Kenya Arvizo one run. Danyelle Davis took the pitching loss.
The Yuma County girls turned around later in the day to cruise to a 19-4 over Woodland Park. They scored 10 runs in the bottom of the first, and the game was called after three innings. Clara Oestman had three hits, including a triple, with four RBI and scoring three runs, Davis two hits with a triple, two RBI and three runs, Priscylla White a three-run double, and one run scored, Gdanitz two hits, two RBI and two runs, Jones two runs, E. Oestman two runs and one RBI, G. Oestman two runs, Jillian Ridnour one hit, one RBI and one run, London King one hit ,three RBI and two runs, and
Autumn Maggard one hit and one run. E. Oestman got the pitching win.
YCS returned Saturday for two more games.
First up was a 17-0 win over Greeley Central. This one was more methodical as YCS scored three runs in the first, two in the second, nine in the third, and three in the fourth. E. Oestman and King combined for the shutout. Oestman struck out three and walked one over three innings, and King struck out one and walked one in one inning.
Davis had three hits with a double, four RBI and three runs, Jones two hits, one RBI and two runs, King hit a double, with one RBI and two runs, Gdanitz one hit, one RBI and three runs, C. Oestman one hit, two RBI and one run, and Autumn Maggard one hit, two RBI and three runs.
The weekend concluded with a tough 8-7 loss to Platte Valley.
The local girls fell behind 4-0 in the first, but rallied to tie it at 4-4 in the top of the third. They plated three more runs in the fifth for a 7-5 lead. However, the Broncos rallied in the home half with three runs for the walk-off win.
