Next week will mark the first meetings of the Yuma-1 Board of Education and the Yuma City Council since Colorado’s stay-at-home orders went into effect, in regards to the novel coronavirus outbreak.
Both are taking a different route in how their meetings will be conducted.
Yuma-1 Board of Education still plans on having an in-person meeting, Monday, April 20, at 7 p.m. at the district office, 418 S. Main St. Superintendent Dianna Chrisman said it will be conducted with “appropriate distancing.” She said some of the board members may choose to participate electronically.
She added that if more people attend than what can be managed within social distancing expectations, it will be postponed.
In regards to any citizen statements, persons can choose to submit their statement — email it to [email protected] — and it will be read aloud for the public record.
It will be the board’s first regular meeting since March 16, when everyone met at the district office and practiced appropriate distancing.
The Yuma City Council will have its first regular meeting since March 17, when it meets Tuesday, April 21, at 7:30 p.m.
Yuma County’s first confirmed case of COVID-19 was announced the next day, March 18, at which point the City of Yuma announced its buildings would be closed to the public.
City Manager Scott Moore told the Pioneer the meeting will be conducted remotely, with everyone participating via Zoom, an application on which numerous people can meet at once, both with video and audio. He said the public will be able view and listen to the meeting through Zoom.
Anyone with an electronic device and internet connection can download the Zoom app, which is quick and easy. Zoom meetings involve a meeting ID and a password in order to participate.
Moore said that information will be posted once the meeting is set up, on the city’s website, its Facebook page and its Twitter feed.
