Yuma Homecoming is next week

Homecoming Week is coming to Yuma High School next week.

This year’s Homecoming Queen candidates are Kenya Arvizo, Bailey Nighswonger, Danika Dischner and Carolina Ross, while the King candidates are Miguel Carrasco, David Covarrubias, Josiah Perez and Daden Beauprez. The King and Queen will be coronated during halftime of the Yuma-Wiggins football game next Friday, October 10.

A Homecoming Parade is coming back this year. It will be next Friday, October 10. It will begin at Yuma High School at 1:15 p.m., proceed downtown, then head west to Yuma Middle School where a pep rally will be held.

The theme is “Blast From the Past.” Classes, clubs and fall sports teams are all building floats. Each will pick a decade/era and decorate accordingly.

The Outlaw Roundup to Chowdown (formerly known as the Wigwam) will be Tuesday, October 7, during the volleyball matches against Haxtun that begin at 4 p.m.

The seniors will be serving walking tacos with toppings and a drink, the juniors burgers with all the works, chips and baked beans, sophomores a burrito bar with toppings and a drink, and freshmen baked potatoes with toppings and a drink. All meals are $7.

There will be dress up themes Tuesday through Friday. On Tuesday, students will dress like teachers, and teachers will dress like students. Wednesday is Adam Sandler Day. Thursday is Rhyme Without a Reason. Friday is Red & White Day, so wear all your Outlaws gear.

Besides the Outlaw Roundup on Tuesday, evening events include Powder Puff Football on Monday at 7 p.m., Class Volleyball on Wednesday in The Pit beginning at 7 p.m., and a community bonfire on Thursday beginning at 7 p.m.

The Homecoming Dance will be Saturday, October 11, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the YHS Commons.

Homecoming Week sporting events include volleyball hosting Haxtun on Tuesday and Wiggins next Friday, and then Byers on Saturday afternoon. The football game against Wiggins next Friday will kickoff at 7 p.m.
