Council hears clean audit report

The Yuma City Council heard a clean audit report during its regular meeting, last week in Council Chambers at Yuma City Hall.

All seven members were at last week’s meeting — Mayor Ron Swehla, Mayor Pro-tem Marc Shay, Terri Frame, Marylu Smith-Dischner, Jerome Benish, Tim McClung and Dan Baucke.
Matt Miller with the auditing firm McMahan and Associates, LLC, provided the audit report for the 2022 fiscal year. He did it remotely via Zoom.
He said the city received a clean audit opinion. “That’s exactly what you want,” Miller said.
Miller noted the General Fund ended with a net income of $20,000, in relation to 2022 revenue and 2022 expenses He said there was no problem with management, and credited the city staff for making the audit as easy as possible.
The council heard a presentation by Paula Bragg, executive director for S.A.R.A. House, as well as a request for a donation. She described the services provided to all ages in regards to victims of sexual assault and domestic violence. Interviews of victims are immediately transcribed for law enforcement agencies.
S.A.R.A. House representatives attend health and community fairs, and provide programs at schools.
Bragg said the requested donation of $500 from the city would go to the Yuma office, which is located in the NJC Yuma Campus building.
The council approved the donation on a 6-1 vote. McClung cast the dissenting vote, and several others paused before voting in the affirmative.
The council’s next meeting would fall on July 4. The council unanimously voted to cancel that meeting. It’s next regularly-scheduled meeting will be July 18.
City Manager Scott Moore told the council that repair work on the alley pans would begin in the near future. The council has earmarked $314,739 in American Rescue Plan Act funds for the street and pan work.
Moore reported that the trash truck that needed repairs is now back in operation, but one of the ambulances currently is out of service after hitting a deer. The Yuma Ambulance Department still has three in operation.
