Cross country back on the road again

Yuma High School’s cross country runners head west again after competing last weekend in Greeley.
The Indians are at the Lightning Invitational at Broomfield Country Commons, Friday afternoon.
Coach Ron Zahller and assistant Ben Inouye took a crew to the Andy Myers Invitational, at Monfort Park in Greeley, last Saturday.
There enough runners for the boys team to post a team score. The Indians finished seventh out of 11 schools with a team score, posting 175 points. Fort Morgan won the boys team title with 49.
Angel Escobar led the way, finishing 21st with a time of 19 minutes, 32.5 seconds. Javier Duran was 30th in 20:25.2, and Jaxson Lungwitz was right behind in 31st in 20:29.9. Mely Gonzalez placed 35th in 20:49.9, and Jaime Montanez rounded out the team score by placing 65th in 26:36.9.
The girls team had only two runners in the varsity race, so did not post a team score.

Hailey Eyring had another great run, placing 11th out of 39 runners with a time of 22:46.6. Freshman Myka McDonald placed 33rd in 27:06 in her varsity debut.
In the boys JV race, Liam McClaran was 20th in 23:27, and Angel Ibarra 46th in 34:43.9. For the girls, Gabriela Varela was 20th in 29:29, Alyssa Roberts 24th in 31:22.2, and Wendy Garcia 25th in 31:28.2.
