Don Crow 1943-2021

Don Crow, 78, of Wray, Colorado, died Friday, October 15, 2021, at his home following a hard-fought battle with cancer.
Donald George Crow was born in Pueblo, CO on June 24th, 1943, the son of George and Lois (Geroux) Crow. He grew up in Westcliffe, CO, attending school and graduating from Custer County High School in 1961. He went on to earn a Bachelors Degree from Colorado State College in 1967, then took a job teaching English at Wray High School. He taught English for 11 years before earning a master’s degree in School Counseling from Adams State College in 1977. Don then became the guidance counselor at Wray High School, a position held for 30 years before his first “retirement” in 2008. He then served as Principal at Wray Elementary for 2 years. Following his second “retirement,” Don continued to support the Wray school in various capacities. Through his company, DC Counseling and Consulting where he oversaw several grants including the Counselor Core and El Pomar Grants and helped support various programs for schools in the Eastern Plains. During his time with the Wray Schools, Don refereed for football, helped coach basketball, directed theatre, assisted academic decathlon team, oversaw the yearbook, and helped announce football games. One of Don’s proudest accomplishments in the Wray schools was the establishment of the Peer Counseling program, which continues to this day and has spread throughout Colorado. He impacted (or influenced) countless lives through the students he taught.
Don was united in marriage to Susan Mary Queen on December 27, 1971, at St. Andrews Catholic Church of Wray, CO. To this union were born three daughters, Christine, Pamela, Rebecca, and one son, Timothy.
Don was an active member of Knights of Columbus, Elks Club, Rotary, Cliff Dwellers, and The Colorado Counselors Association. He was an active and faithful member of St. Andrews Catholic Church, serving on parish counsel, singing in the choir, and leading RCIA classes.
Some of his favorite activities included gardening, reading, theatre, and keeping tabs on his 11 grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Lois Crow. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of nearly 50 years, Susan; his children, Christine (Ethan) Sayler, Lennox, SD, Pamela (Mathew) Barr, Aurora, CO, Rebecca (Daniel) Brophy, Winter Garden, FL, Timothy (Erika) Crow, Arlington, TX; his 11 grandchildren, Dylan Barr, Hannah Sayler, Alexis Barr, Caleb Sayler, Noah Sayler, Javin Barr, Isaiah Sayler, Alexander Crow, Aiden Brophy, Eleanor Crow, and Conor Brophy; his brother, Dennis (Shirley) Crow, Westcliffe, CO, sister, Deanne (Jim) Littrell, Westcliffe, CO, and sister, Delaine Crow, Colorado Springs, CO, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Services were held Thursday, October 21st, 2021, at St. Andrews Catholic Church, 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Felicia Ilunga Mbala officiating.
Interment was held at Grandview Cemetery, Wray, CO. Rosary was held Wednesday, October 20 at 6:00 pm.
