Indians hosting matches Tuesday after going 2-1 in Brush

Yuma High School’s boys wrestlers had a busy Saturday in Brush.
They next host Byers and Burlington for a triangular in The Pit on Tuesday, February 16, beginning at 5 p.m.

Yuma opened Saturday’s action with a 39-30 win over Brush. Louden Blach earned a 7-0 decision at 170 pounds. Kevin Hermosillo got a 34-second pin at 182. Brandon Mendoza won by fall (2 minutes, 33 seconds) at 285. John Smith won by fall (4:25) at 120. Blaze Brophy picked up a win by pin (3:16) at 138, and Trey Stegman also won by fall (1:53) at 145. Kallen Blach picked up a forfeit win at 195.
Yahir Trejo was pinned at 160. Jose Ruiz lost a 5-0 decision at 220. Hugo Montes and Maddox Hisam both lost by fall at 126 and 132, respectively, and Zeke Martinez came up just short in a 10-9 loss at 152.
The Indians’ undefeated dual season came to an end with a 54-21 team loss to Platte Valley. K. Blach won by fall (4:18) at 195. Mendoza won by fall (4:33) at 285. Smith won again at 120 with a 4-0 decision. Brophy rounded out the scoring with a 45-second pin at 138. Martinzez lost by decision, 10-3, at 152, Trejo lost a 4-1 decision at 160, L. Blach was pinned at 170, Hermosillo lost by fall at 182, Ruiz lost by fall at 220, Montes lost by fall at 126, Hisam lost by fall at 132, and Stegman lost by fall at 145.
The Indians wrapped up the day with a 36-31 win over Resurrection Christian. Ruiz earned Yuma’s first win on the mat with a 7-0 decision at 220. Mendoza followed with a pin at 285. Brophy got a 43-second pin at 138, and Martinez won an exciting 8-6 decision at 152. Getting forfeit wins were Hermosillo at 182, K. Blach at 195, and Smith at 120. L. Blach lost by fall at 170, Montes lost by fall at 126, and Hisam by fall at 132. Stegman suffered a tough 7-6 loss at 145. Trejo lost a major decision at 160.
